A week full of colourful hot air balloons and dreamlike weather conditions marked the 34th International Libro Balloon Cup, which took place in the Brixen Valley from 16 to 23 September 2023.
Under the direction of Irmgard Moser, a breathtaking balloon week was once again organised in the towns of Brixen im Thale, Kirchberg in Tirol and Westendorf. The ideal conditions contributed to a successful event, with more than 30 teams from 6 nations - Austria, Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium and Switzerland - taking part in the daily scoring flights.
Great Britain dominated the Libro Ballon Cup with pilots Tony Shileds, David Head and Alan Turner taking the top three places with impressive scores of 2800, 2100 and 2000 respectively.
On Sunday, 17 September 2023, the popular children's festivalonce again attracted numerous young visitors to the Stöcklfeld in Kirchberg.
The absolute highlight of the Balloon Cup, the "Night of the Balloons", took place on Saturday, 16 September 2023, under a clear autumn sky. Under perfect conditions and almost windless weather, guests and locals admired the balloons lit up to music. In this gorgeous autumn weather, the planned competition flights of the balloon teams could take place smoothly. As every year, the passengers had the opportunity to experience the Kitzbühel Alps from a bird's eye view. The Brixen Valley with its two side valleys was not only a highlight for the balloonists and guests, but the significant air currents of the Brixen Valley also made for exciting landings, all of which were managed without any major difficulties.
Next year's Libro Balloon Cup is already planned and will take place from 14 to 21 September 2024. The organisers and participants are already looking forward to meeting again in the Brixen Valley.
