Heimspiel für Österreichs STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Elite

Updated 25.07.2023

Before pros and rookies join forces in the hunt for titles at the third edition of the European Nations Cup on Sunday 3 September 2023, Austria's top athletes will saw and chop for the much-coveted Austrian championship title on the Tyrol's high plateau on Saturday 2 September 2023.

Nations competition of Europe's best

Europe's best TIMBERSPORTS® athletes are currently competing for the prestigious title and qualification for the World Trophy 2024 at the European Trophy in Poznan (Poland). On 3 September, the European Nations Cup 2023 will be held in Seefeld. After the Scandinavian team won the title last year, just ahead of Germany and Poland, the cards will certainly be reshuffled this year. Austria around Armin Kugler also wants to have its say. A total of 28 athletes from seven European countries will meet at the event site in front of the Sports and Congress Centre. Which sports lumberjacks will represent their country at the European Nations Cup on the Tyrolean plateau will be decided beforehand in national qualification competitions.

Rookies lead the way - pros decide

The European Nations Cup will kick off on 3 September at 10 a.m. with the young athletes. In four disciplines the rookies will collect important points for the national ranking. Directly afterwards, Europe's top athletes will take part in the action: The pros will complete all six TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines, three each on axe and saw, and thus bring about the final decision in the overall standings. The classic axe competitions Springboard, Underhand Chop and Standing Block Chop can bring about a preliminary decision, but the winners will only be chosen after the best times on the saws: from Single Buck (pull saw) to Stock Saw (commercially available chainsaw) to the grand finale on the Hot Saw (tuned chainsaw with up to 80 hp).

Start with Austria's TIMBERSPORTS® Elite

Before the big European Nations Cup, the Austrian championship title will be contested on Saturday, 2 September. The women will start at 10 a.m., competing in three disciplines - Stock Saw, Single Buck and Underhand Chop. The previous dominator, Juliana Einfalt from Waldviertel, will have to compete with newcomer Johanna Loretz, who celebrated her debut at the Swiss Women's Cup 2022. In any case, the spectators can look forward to concentrated female power.

Immediately afterwards, Austria's young talents will wield axes and saws. The rookies will have to go through a total of four stations - Stock Saw, Standing Block Chop, Single Buck and Underhand Chop. Can the reigning Austrian Rookie Champion, Lukas Wagesreiter, prevail against the competition again this year or are they already sawing away at his top place on the podium?

From 4 pm it's "ready to chop" for Austria's pros. The pros will complete all six disciplines, three each on axe and saw. The disciplines mentioned so far will be joined by springboard and hot saw, with hot saw being the supreme discipline. Will Armin Kugler leave his competitors behind again this year or will there be a surprise?

Supporting programme promises top entertainment

Around the competitions, STREATFOOD Austria will spoil the visitors with its wide range of delicacies. The STIHL brand shop will offer its high-quality products for a little shopping break. The highlight of the supporting programme, however, is the concert by the cover band "The Gang", which will take place on Saturday evening after the competitions. With rousing music and an energetic stage presence, this live act promises to whisk the audience away to an unforgettable rock'n'roll night. Special guest Denise Beiler, a popular singer from Inzing who has been known to an audience of millions since her success on the Voice of Germany, will also be performing.
