At the 8th Int. Musikkapellentreffen last week, Kirchberg once again became the stage for brass music. 13 groups from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol, Switzerland and the Netherlands came together in the Brixen Valley to celebrate brass band music on the mountain and in the valley for four days in perfect weather. In the end, one thing became clear once again: music connects across all borders.
International brass music at the highest level could once again be heard in the Brixen Valley last weekend. More than 300 musicians from five nations made the 8th International Music Band Meeting in the Brixen Valley a special event. On Thursday, the Muziekvereniging Excelsior Twello set the tone with an opening concert in the music pavilion on the village square. On Friday, the participants went high up in the mountains with their musical instruments in their luggage. The mountain railways took the music associations up the Hahnenkamm and the Gaisberg, respectively, where, after a pleasant panoramic hike, they stopped for a break in the huts. Of course, the instruments were also pulled out and musical impressions were given to the best. Already at this point, the social get-together led to cross-association acquaintances and joint musical performances. And - a bond for life: On the Obergaisberg, a Dutch participant proposed to his girlfriend.
Back in the valley, the bands marched from the Kirchberg village square to the arena365 at 7 p.m., where at 8 p.m., dressed in lederhosen and dirndl, they played the "Night of Traditional Costume" with the renowned "Viera Blech" band. Martin Scharnagl and his colleagues got the visitors in the packed hall fired up.
Music in Kirchberg's streets from morning till night
Saturday was all about the 13 participating bands. From 10.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. they presented their skills at guest concerts in the pavilions Dorfplatz and Pöllmühne, dressed in the traditional costumes of their home regions. And: that brass music can do "more" than classical. The palette of musical impressions ranged from classical brass music, alphorn and shawm sounds to marching bands and modern pop and rock sounds. The bands played many pieces that are well-known among brass musicians, always with their own regional touch. At the Kirchberg fire brigade's hall festival, the bands brought the weekend to a close. There was swaying, dancing and of course singing. This was a fitting end to the 8th Int. Musikkapeentreffen 2023 - with a lot of heart and passion for music and like-minded people.
