The Austrian Juniors Golf Tour (AJGT) tournament and the Tyrolean Pupils and Youth Championship at GC Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf set an example for environmentally friendly sport. Thanks to the cooperation with Klimabündnis Tirol, the event was awarded the distinction of "Green Event Tirol basic" for the first time. With this pilot project, the organisers support the efforts of the Austrian Golf Association (ÖGV) for more sustainability in golf.
In close cooperation with the Austrian and Tyrolean Golf Associations, numerous measures were taken at GC Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf to make the tournament more sustainable. Particular attention is paid to environmentally friendly travel, barrier-free access, waste avoidance, reusable tableware, regional catering, social sustainability and a holistic approach to the sustainable operation of the golf course.
However, the impact of the Green Event goes far beyond measurable effects such as waste reduction. It is important to the organisers to raise awareness for a sustainable lifestyle and to make clear that golf and sustainability are not contradictory. On the contrary, golf courses can create significant added value for the regional landscape and environment. During the event, the young participants and guests learn about alternative options and at the same time become active advocates of sustainable engagement.
