The 46th edition of the Tour of the Alps and its predecessor, the Giro del Trentino, once again promises five exciting days full of thrilling duels amidst the most beautiful panoramas of the Alpine region. With Geraint Thomas, Aleksandr Vlasov, Jack Haig, Rigoberto Uran and Chris Froome, numerous top stars are taking part. The opening stage on 17 April leads from Rattenberg to Alpbach over 127.5 kilometres. For the first time, the peloton will also include an Austrian national team with the two pros Lukas Pöstlberger and Sebastian Schönberger, who are expected to lead Marco Schrettl (the only Tyrolean at the start), Alexander Hajek and Sebastian Putz (all from the Tirol KTM Cycling Team) as well as Moran Vermeulen (Team Vorarlberg) and Philipp Hofbauer (WSA KTM GRAZ P/B LEOMO) to the world's best. The wildcard for the ÖRV national team came from the Tirol KTM Cycling Team. Team boss Thomas Pupp on the reasons: "We have an extremely young team this year and the Tour of the Alps with its top level would be too tough for us. So we decided to set up a team with our wildcard together with the ÖRV. It's a win-win situation for all of us and for domestic cycling."
Felix Gall wants to finish in the top 5!Hermann Pernsteiner from Bahrain - Victorious is going into the Tour of the Alps (Tota) as a noble helper. Not so East Tyrolean Felix Gall, who will be competing in his second Tota after his fantastic sixth place overall last year. "This is currently my best season ever and I already have as many UCI points as I did last year. I think I've arrived at the top of the world. Last week at the Tour of the Basque Country I finished in the top ten four times and took tenth place overall. I no longer have to hide from anyone and never had to fight to stay in the front group in the Basque Country. That was also extremely good for my self-confidence."
The 25-year-old Felix Gall has found a level of consistency this year that he has never had before: "I've been racing at a good level for two months now. I'm going into the Tour of the Alps as the leader for my team AG2R Citroën, and maybe that will also work out at the Giro d'Italia. I hope that by Monday my body will have recovered well from the efforts of the last few weeks. I'm really looking forward to the "home tour". The tour is extremely well organised and the short stages also make it more exciting for us and the spectators."
This season, Felix Gall finished ninth in the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain climbing classic, sixth in the Faun-Ardèche Classic and sixth in the young rider classification at Tirreno-Adriatico. Info at: https: //www.alpbachtal.at/de/alpbachtal-bike-days/tota
