Erlebnistherme Zillertal: Spatenstich für Erweiterung um 13 Millionen Euro

Updated 18.07.2023

With the start of construction for the expansion, the Erlebnistherme Zillertal is taking another step towards improving its offerings. Spa guests can look forward to a better quality of stay and higher capacities from the winter season 2024/25. Thanks to the modular construction of the extension, bathing operations can be maintained.

With around 230,000 guests per year, the Erlebnistherme Zillertal is a magnet for visitors seeking relaxation. Both holidaymakers and locals from the entire valley, the Inn Valley and Bavaria relax in Fügen. In order to improve the offer, the expansion of the spa was decided in 2019 by the municipal council in Fügen and the tourism association Erste Ferienregion im Zillertal, and a project was identified in an architectural competition the following year. Now the winning project by the architectural consortium FIPE Architects ZT OG (architect Markus Fischer from Graz) and Spiegel ZT GmbH (architect Bernd Spiegel from Dornbirn) will be implemented. After an intensive planning period, construction of the extension will begin on Monday, 10 July 2023.

"Our Erlebnistherme lives from families and has grown up through them. We are convinced that the extension will improve the overall offer and that the construction will create a new incentive to use the spa in bad weather or during the cold season. With a new kids' area but also extensions such as an outdoor sauna, nude swimming area and sauna garden, young and old can look forward to improvements," says Ernst Erlebach, managing director of the Erlebnistherme Zillertal and chairman of the Fügen-Kaltenbach holiday region in the Zillertal. For example, in addition to the aforementioned optimisations, more loungers and lockers will be available for those seeking relaxation, the east-side entrance will be enlarged and a kind of atrium made of plants and shrubs will be created. In addition to the quality of its services, the Erlebnistherme is also increasing its capacities. "With the expansion of about 13 million euros, we are giving a strong impulse to the entire region and are thus not only further developing the Erlebnistherme. The new attractions will provide even more action, fun and relaxation. The whole community is already looking forward to the planned opening of the extension," says Dominik Mainusch, mayor of Fügen and second managing director of the Erlebnistherme Zillertal.

The architects Fischer and Spiegel, who won the competition, have estimated the construction time of the spa at about 1.5 years. In the planned construction project, the Erlebnistherme will not be built from scratch, it will be expanded, optimised and modernised. Due to the modular construction method, it will be possible to maintain the spa operations during the construction period - albeit possibly somewhat restricted.
