A special summer holiday in the heart of the Alps

Updated on 17.04.2023

After the long, dreary winter, the anticipation of the sunny season is growing - have you already made your decision for your summer holiday? An insider tip in the heart of the Alps is the Hall-Wattens holiday region(www.hall-wattens.at). Away from mass tourism, visitors can expect unspoilt side valleys, special places to discover and a welcoming atmosphere.

Famous, popular and an uplifting experience every time: the seven-kilometre Zirbenweg is a fascinating panoramic hiking trail at 2,000 metres above sea level. It runs from the mountain station of the Patscherkofel cable car to the Tulfeinalm near Tulfes. Thanks to the pleasant, easy route, the Zirbenweg is a highlight for young and old and provides unrivalled views of over 400 mountain peaks.

The mountain adventure world "Kugelwald am Glungezer" directly at the Halsmarter middle station fascinates with a variety of play options at 1,500 metres above sea level. Like on a rollercoaster, the balls roll from tree to tree on tracks made of Swiss stone pine. On an area of 8,000 square metres, visitors will also find a large tree house, a do-it-yourself construction area, a relaxation area, sound elements and a forest classroom. There is also a low ropes course for climbing around at low heights to make exploring the forest even more exciting.

For those who would like to go higher, the Sagenklettersteig on the Glungezer offers adventurous fun on the rock face for the whole family. With various levels of difficulty - from easy ("Category A") to difficult ("Category C"), it has something for everyone, including short and long steep climbs, ridge intersections, chimney passages and rope breaks.

Close to the Tulfeinalm, you can enjoy the incomparably woody and tart scent of Swiss stone pine as you pass the Zirbensee lake on your way to the Halsmarter middle station. If you're looking for a little refreshment after an exciting hike on the mountain, you'll find the wonderfully cool water at the Zirbensee water playground.

Not only can you hear the whistle of the marmot, you can also watch the animal. Photograph the chamois jumping through the rock face. Feel like a salt miner. In Austria's largest nature park, you will find adventure at every turn.

The Karwendel with its rugged limestone walls, fascinating vegetation and emerald green streams immediately casts a spell over visitors. Hiking in the natural and cultural landscape of the Halltal valley, where salt has been mined for centuries, is a unique experience.

If you don't just walk straight along the path, but also look left and right, you will discover all kinds of wonders, big and small, in Austria's largest nature park. Then you will discover that in addition to the Alpine classics edelweiss and gentian, there are unique flowers such as the Turk's cap lily or the bearded bellflower.

The tour to the 2,726 metre high Bettelwurf, which was chosen as one of the most striking mountain peaks due to its extraordinary character, is particularly suitable for sporty hikers.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful towns in Austria can be found if you go on a voyage of discovery to the medieval town of Hall. The tasteful buildings in Hall's old town bear witness to its past as a prosperous town: in the Middle Ages, Hall became the most important economic centre in North Tyrol thanks to salt production.

Today, Hall is a vibrant small town full of joie de vivre, where you can experience a wide variety of shopping opportunities and stylish hospitality between walls steeped in history. The lovingly restored historic centre of Hall and the grounds of Hasegg Castle with its mint tower and adjoining mint museum attract visitors from all over the world every year.

In a sunny garden, a traditional Tyrolean inn or an exquisite award-winning restaurant: culinary delights and enjoyment are very important in the Hall-Wattens region. The first crunchy spring vegetables are harvested as early as April and are then offered at the charming farmers' markets and numerous culinary festivals.

With the climate-friendly and relaxed travel option of ÖBB's modern overnight train fleet, nothing stands in the way of the perfect summer holiday. The packages including the train journey, the komoot world package worth € 29.99 and the transfer from the train station with the Tyrolean train station shuttle directly to your accommodation can be booked from/to Hamburg, Düsseldorf or Amsterdam.
