Autumn in the Alpbach Valley is a time of celebration, nature and tradition. The calendar of events is well filled with splendid festivals.
Autumn in the Alpbach Valley is a time of colourfulness, tradition and socialising. The autumn festivities, especially the Kirchtag and the Reither Almabtrieb, take centre stage and captivate locals and guests alike.
Kirchtag: A feast for the senses
On 24 September, the traditional Kirchtag is celebrated at the Museum of Tyrolean Farms in Kramsach. It is a day that indulges the senses and fills the soul with Tyrolean hospitality and culture. The festive day begins at 9.30 a.m. with the ceremonial parade of the Kramsach Rifle Company, various music bands and invited guests of honour as well as the Kasedlfrauen. The Wildschönauer Sturmlöda, equipped with historical weapons and in traditional costume, give the festivities an authentic touch of old Tyrol. After the opening ceremony, the colourful Kirchtag hustle and bustle begins with concerts by the music bands, the alphorn blowers from Angath, the "Axamer Kirchtagsschnöller" and demonstrations of old handicraft techniques. Numerous music groups perform in the courtyards and on the grounds. Dancing is allowed - on the green meadow or in the parlours. Tyrolean delicacies will also be served. Various hands-on activities are planned for children.
Reither Almabtrieb
The 23rd and 30th of September are dedicated to the Reither Almabtrieb, one of the most impressive autumn customs in Tyrol. This spectacular event marks the end of the alpine summer and the beginning of the cold season. The cows return from the lush alpine meadows to their stables at home.
In Reith im Alpbachtal it is a colourful spectacle celebrated with a Kirchtags festival and farmers' market in the village.
Family Autumn in the Alpbachtal
Every Friday in October, families can explore the Museum of Tyrolean Farms together with entertainer Hubsi. This day is packed with exciting activities and hands-on stations for the little ones.
