Der Countdown startet: Noch 111 Tage bis zu den WMTRC 2023 Innsbruck-Stubai

Updated on 15/02/2023

In 111 days, the starting signal for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships 2023 Innsbruck-Stubai (WMTRC 2023) will be given. Today, the official countdown clock was set up in Innsbruck together with the organising committee and their partners. Between 6 and 10 June, the two host regions of Innsbruck and Stubai will become the Mecca of the mountain and trail running scene and welcome over 1,400 participants.

There are 111 days to go until the World Championships, and the official countdown clock on Maria-Theresien-Straße in Innsbruck was unveiled on this very day. "The province of Tyrol is ready for this event and we are looking forward to hosting these World Championships here in Innsbruck. I am convinced that the images that will go out into the world will once again show the host qualities that Tirol has to offer. We will also be welcoming around 60 nations from all over the world during the World Championships. From New Zealand, Hong Kong and Kenya to Argentina and Chile, numerous nations are represented," emphasises Governor Anton Mattle.

From now on, the clock will adorn the Innsbruck cityscape. "Visitors to Maria-Theresien-Straße - one of the busiest streets in Austria - will be made aware that the World Mountain Running and Trail Running Championships will take place in Innsbruck and Stubai in June. I think it is very important to involve the people of Innsbruck and Tyrol with this countdown clock and to look forward to the home World Championships together with them," says Georg Dornauer, 1st Deputy Governor and Councillor for Sport.

Innsbruck's mayor Georg Willi is already looking forward to the major event in June: "The sports city of Innsbruck offers the perfect conditions for these World Championships. We don't have to build any artificial facilities, but instead utilise our breathtaking natural backdrop. The fact that 1,200 athletes have already been announced shows that the World Championships will be a special highlight. And the countdown in the centre of Innsbruck will certainly arouse interest in trail running among the population in advance."

For Elisabeth Mayr, City Councillor for Sport in Innsbruck, the World Championships are in perfect hands in the region: "The Trail Running and Mountain Running World Championships fit perfectly into the series of major sporting events and match the profile of the sporting city of Innsbruck. If you look at the routes on the Nordkette, the Elfer or along the Kalkkögel, you can see that the region is made for such an event."

Alexander Pittl, Head of the Organising Committee of the WMTRC 2023, is convinced that the two host regions will benefit from the World Championships in the long term: "Better conditions for trail running and mountain running than we have here are hard to find anywhere else. And it's not just the athletes who can experience the World Championships up close. Whether directly on the courses, at the Expo or during the colourful supporting programme: spectators from near and far will be offered a lot."

"What will make these World Championships so special is the unique combination of alpine and urban. Innsbruck, with its immediate alpine surroundings, makes major sporting events such as the 2023 World Championships a unique experience for the athletes, all sports enthusiasts and visitors," emphasises Peter Paul Mölk, Chairman of Innsbruck Tourismus.

The Stubai is also looking forward to the World Championships with anticipation: "We are promoting the Stubai Valley as the number one hiking destination in the Alpine region. The Mountain Running and Trail Running World Championships give us the opportunity to demonstrate this expertise," says Adrian Siller, Chairman of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association.

The fact that these World Championships are an ideal fit for Tirol is also emphasised by Rosanna Buchauer, a German from Tirol who is promoting Tirol and fifth in the 2022 World Championships: "In 111 days, we have the opportunity to present Tirol's diversity and showcase our mountain landscape. Mountain sports and major sporting events are in our DNA and I'm really looking forward to proving this once again with this World Cup."

Heike Kiesling, Managing Director of Innsbruck Marketing, sees the Trail Running World Championships as a perfect translation of alpine urban joie de vivre, the identity of Innsbruck. The countdown clock draws the attention of everyone who lives in, lives in and visits the city to this unique major event: "A diverse supporting programme will certainly make this World Championships with its alpine sports flair right in the heart of the city an exciting impulse and an enrichment for our provincial capital. In 111 days, locals, visitors and athletes from all over the world will be able to get an impression of the event."
