25. Ganghofer Hubertus Week on Tyrol's High Plateau
For the 25th time, Monika and Hans Bantl invite you to the Ganghofer Hubertus Week in the Leutasch Valley from 1 to 7 October. This time with one laughing eye and one crying eye, because it will be the last week that they organise on the topic of wildlife and hunting. At the end of the week, the participants can look forward to many familiar guided hikes, but also to a few surprises.
Stopping after a quarter of a century is not easy. "It's hard for us, but somehow it's also time for something new," says Hans, who, at over 70 years of age, seems far from tired of inspiring locals and guests for his homeland and its nature. The Ganghofer Hubertus Week is traditionally about hunting, whereby the focus is not on "hunting" but on the actual main tasks of a hunter, namely the care and protection of nature and wild animals.
Hunting means above all caring for and protecting
On Monday, 2 October, the question "Lead-free ammunition, useful or not" will not be about shooting, but about the protection of birds of prey, which ingest the toxic metal when eating hunted animals and die from it. Other topics, such as "Wildlife in the city" or "There must be room for everyone in the forest" address current issues and challenges. "Our hunter colleagues from Berlin will report on the problems in the city," says Monika. There, wolves and bears are not a big issue, as they are now in the Alps, but wild boar populations.
The expert exchange takes place on the five hikes guided by Hans. Afterwards, it's off to a cosy hoangart in one of the inns on Tyrol's high plateau. One of the highlights is Wednesday (4 October): First of all, a specially created Hubertus sausage is roasted for the traditional culinary event at the Schlacht'l in Leutasch-Klamm, and in the evening the Steinrösler Singers and the Wetterstoaner Kinderplattler perform in the Leutasch Dorfstadl.
Everyone, guests and locals alike, is cordially invited to attend all the events and the closing Hubertus Mass on Saturday, 7 October, at 7 pm in the parish church of Oberleutasch. You only need to register in advance for the culinary programme and the hunters' evening, which will be the crowning finale after the mass on Saturday. For all other events, simply arrive at the meeting point on time.
