Prelude to the Summer Concerts

Musikkapelle Seefeld under female leadership for the first time in its anniversary year

The concert season begins in the Seefeld region on 14 May. The Swiss brass band Thurgados opens the series of summer concerts on Tyrol's high plateau in Seefeld's Kurpark. Until the end of September, the sounds of the local brass bands can be heard regularly in the plateau communities. Especially in Seefeld, you can look forward to domestic and foreign guests: the highlights are certainly the Sound of Texas (22.06.), the Virginia Ambassadors of Music (15.07.) as well as the Janissary Band (15.09.) from Hamar (Norway). But it is not only the international guest bands that make this year's summer season in Seefeld something special. Anna Rantner is the first woman in the history of the band, and at the end of June she will also be responsible for celebrating the band's 175th anniversary.

In November 2022, long-term chairman Emil Webhofer resigned and handed over the leadership position to Anna Rantner. "Actually, not only to me, but also to my deputy Denise Mikolasch," adds the new chairwoman modestly. Nevertheless, in all official files, the 25-year-old's name appears first, and thus she is always contacted as well. "Yes, outwardly I have to answer questions and thus naturally clarify things a bit more, but otherwise we work together as a team with all the board members."

On the board, Rantner has already held two positions in recent years, that of secretary and media officer. She plays the clarinet and saxophone in the band and has done so for almost 13 years. Despite her experience, there was a lot of respect for her new task at first. "You just have to think of a lot more, but it's also really fun." In 2023, the band will perform up to 60 times under her leadership - from rehearsals, processions and summer concerts to the big jubilee on 24 June. The fact that she is making her debut with this event is something special. But Rantner knows what needs to be done. "Last year I was already heavily involved in the organisation of the district music festival." The anniversary festival - the taps on the village square followed by a Tyrolean evening in the spa park - will therefore certainly go well. "The whole festival is a challenge and a lot of work," says Rantner with a smile. But the positive wind from her colleagues and listeners always gives her energy for the many additional hours she puts in each week as chairwoman.

As the new leader of the Bürgermusikkapelle Seefeld, she has one big wish for the concert season, which she shares with the chairpersons of the Leutasch, Scharnitz and Reith bands: "It would be nice to see more locals at the concerts again Of course they are also happy to have tourists as an audience. "But a music band is actually first and foremost there for the village and its citizens and therefore naturally also wishes to be appreciated by them."

So Rantner and her colleagues hope that many familiar faces will be discovered in the audience on the warm summer evenings on the plateau.

In Leutasch and Scharnitz the concert season begins on 3 June, the Reither start their summer of music on 24 June.
