Alpbachtal Tourismus stellt Zukunftsprojekte vor

Updated on 02.12.2023

At the General Assembly, Alpbachtal Tourismus announces innovative projects for 2024 - including a new regional office in Brixlegg and a 24/7 info shop for guests. Despite a slight decline compared to the pre-corona season, the region can report an impressive increase in the winter season and growth in summer 2023.

Kramsach - The winter season ended with an impressive increase of 26.7% in overnight stays and 30.2% in arrivals compared to the previous year. A total of 411,566 overnight stays and 88,683 arrivals were recorded. Although this represents a decline compared to the pre-corona winter season 18/19, it shows a clear recovery in the industry. "We still have room for improvement, but we are very satisfied with the development compared to the previous year," says Markus Kofler, Managing Director of Alpbachtal Tourismus.

The 2023 summer season also recorded growth of 4.3% in overnight stays and 5.1% in arrivals. Particularly noteworthy are the months of May and September, which grew by 24% and 11.9% respectively compared to the previous year. The average length of stay remained constant at 4.1 days.

New regional office in Brixlegg

Exciting projects are planned for 2024. These include the realisation of a new regional office in Brixlegg. "The idea of a centrally located regional office has been around since the merger of the tourism association in 2005. Now we have the opportunity to extend an existing building at the roundabout in Brixlegg and create an ideal location for a regional office," explains TVB Chairman Frank Kostner. The new office will function as a full-service information centre for members and guests. With an investment sum of three million euros and the support of the province of Tyrol, this project is to be realised step by step. The investment will also pay off in the long term. "If the TVB has to downsize at some point, the area can be dismantled again and individual flats can be sold or rented out," says Kostner.

Alpbachtal opens 24/7 info shop

Another project is the realisation of information shops and a new mobile information office. This will be accessible around the clock and also serve as a shop for local products. This service point combines tourist information with a multilingual AI concierge, a kind of chatbot with artificial intelligence, and offers plenty of space for regional specialities. The pilot will be launched in Alpbach in December. A second info shop will then replace the existing office in Rattenberg next year.

Gruberhaus to be demolished in the first quarter

A significant milestone for the development of the municipality of Brixlegg is also imminent: the historic "Ledermaier-Gruberhaus" will now be demolished in the first quarter of 2024. The building is known as a bottleneck after the traffic lights on the way to Alpbachtal. This will enable improvements such as extended fire service access, the preservation of public parking spaces and the optimisation of footpaths and cycle paths. The province of Tyrol was only able to acquire the property thanks to the financial involvement of the tourism association, the commitment of the municipality of Brixlegg and the goodwill of the Gruber family.

"We would have had far better offers, but this decision was made in the interests of everyone and everyone benefits equally from it," said Hermann Gruber at the general meeting.

Utilising and expanding synergies

For Chairman Frank Kostner, the utilisation of synergies in the region is of enormous importance. "All partners, from the Congress Centre to the mountain railways, use the same technical systems, which strengthens cooperation and the benefits for the Alpbachtal Card," emphasised Chairman Frank Kostner. The figures prove it: Thanks to the new website, with joint CRM of all partners, booking turnover has also increased.

The upcoming projects promise exciting developments for tourism in our Alpbachtal region.
