23.06.2023 | Golfing on the legendary Streif? Sounds special, and it is. Only once a year is it possible to conquer the most legendary downhill course in the world with a golf club. At "Golf the Streif", sports stars compete with passionate golfers. The presentation of the new poster for the Hahnenkamm Races 2024 will round off this unique event.
In glorious sunshine, the starting house on the Hahnenkamm mutated into a Mecca of golf. At Golf the Streif, prominent skiing, tennis and football professionals and passionate golfers met for the annual tournament of a special kind.
Golf the Streif on 22 JuneTheunique tournament format over the legendary downhill course makes it possible to golf on the Streif once a year. A must for connoisseurs of the format and golf enthusiasts, where the adrenaline of the Streif is mixed with the precision of golf.
After breakfast at the starting house, the foursome will play 12 holes along the downhill race course. The best-placed ball serves as a reference for the next shot. A short stop at the Seidlalm provides a breather before the challenging traverse to the finish. The winner is the team with the fewest strokes. This is not a safe undertaking for the pre-caddies - which is why they are equipped with helmets along the course. Hole-in-one on three holes as well as longest drive and nearest to the pin pay off for the players and are rewarded with special prizes such as a Mini Cooper, a golf cart and a SnowGolf weekend as well as high-quality vouchers.
Hahnenkamm meets guests of honourAs atraditional kick-off, the Kitzbühel Ski Club, together with BTV's Managing Director for Private Clients Germany, Mr Peter Kofler, presented the poster for the 84th Hahnenkamm Races from 15 to 21 January 2024. A total of 122 works were submitted to the popular competition by 68 artists worldwide. The poster by this year's artist, Lasha Inashvili from Georgia, shows an abstract representation of the Hahnenkamm in reference to the podium places and a snowy downhill run with the different ski tracks of the individual nations.
Traditionally, the Kitzbühel Ski Club around President Dr. Michael Huber opened Golf the Streif as the 1st flight. As special guests of honour, Kitzbühel Tourism welcomed the sportsman flight with the German skier and long-time member of the Kitzbühel Ski Club, Linus Straßer, as well as Stephan Eberharter from the Zillertal, a two-time winner of the Streif, whose winning run shortly before his retirement in 2004 is still considered the perfect downhill run with a lead of 1.21 seconds. The two were accompanied by Lukas Hinterseer from Kitzbühel, former football player of the Austrian national team and currently with Hansa Rostock in the second Bundesliga, as well as the Spanish tennis player Emilio Álvarez.
Former tennis talent Thomas Weirather, Streif record holder Fritz Strobl and entrepreneur KR Fritz Unterberger also took the opportunity to attend the event. In terms of golf, top-class professionals were also on hand with two-time SnowGolf World Champion Adi Hengstberger, the national coach of the Austrian Golf Association, Ulf Wendling, golf pro Patrick Wolferstätter and the charismatic golf proette Sophie Weilguni.
