From 6 to 10 June 2023, Innsbruck-Stubai will transform into the centre of trail and mountain running, welcoming 1,400 athletes to the 2nd World Championships. The last 200 days before the World Championships have been ushered in and anticipation is rising both among the organisers and the two host regions.
On 12 and 13 November 2022, the Alpine Trade Fair took place in Innsbruck and there was a lot of interest in the WMTRC 2023 stand. One highlight that was very well received was the 200-metre trail that was set up, which was indicated by floor markings across the exhibition halls and which encouraged visitors to the fair to join in.
Alexander Pittl, head of the OC, was pleased about the visit of numerous World Cup ambassadors to the exhibition stand. "The more Tyroleans we can infect with World Cup fever, the more will follow the races live in June 2023. In this way, we are getting closer step by step to our goal of making the 2023 WMTRC in Innsbruck-Stubai a celebration for everyone."
For example, Markus Kröll led the two well-attended trail running workshops organised by Salomon. He is an ambassador of the WMTRC 2023 from the very beginning and is considered a running legend of the Zillertal. He also has numerous international medals and titles in mountain running to his name. Most recently, a new trail running course in Mayrhofen, the "Krölli Trail", was dedicated to him, which he also helped to develop.
In addition to the trail running workshops, another item on the programme was an exciting talk by ambassador Florian Grasel, Austria's most successful ultra trail runner. He took his audience into his world and told them how he got into trail running. It all started in 2010, when he was looking for a balance to his heavy workload. In the same year, he ran his first marathon in under three hours. Numerous successes and victories, such as first place at this year's "Eiger Ultra Trail" over 250 kilometres, later, his new goal is now the home World Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai in June 2023.
Rosanna Buchauer, another top athlete and ambassador, was a guest at the stand at the Alpine trade fair. The currently most successful German trail runner and Tyrolean by choice has lived in Innsbruck for many years. At the recent inaugural World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Chiang Mai, she finished fifth in the Long Trail. "Thailand was an unforgettable experience and my first World Championship. I hope to be there next year in Innsbruck-Stubai as well, as a home World Cup is of course very special. The preparation would be very similar to my usual training, as I'm on the trails around the Kalkkögel a lot and know the region well."
