Cross-country skiing, skiing, New Year's Eve swimming: Winter at Lake Achensee is in full swing. For the 20th time, the New Year's Eve swim will take place in Pertisau on 31 December 2022. Traditionally, hardy swimmers ring in the New Year.
Already on 18 December 2022, the Achensee region opened the cross-country skiing season with the "Cross-Country Opening" in Achenkirch, where the latest equipment could be tested and trial courses booked. On 19 December 2022, the region's winter hiking programme around Tyrol's largest lake started, where you can wander through winter-white landscapes and observe wildlife under the expert guidance of the nature park rangers until 17 March 2023. The Christlum high alpine lifts, the Karwendel mountain railway and the Rofan cable car are also already in winter operation. Already at the turn of the year, a legendary winter event is on the programme at Lake Achensee: at the 20th New Year's Eve Swim on 31 December 2022, cold-tested swimmers will once again vie for victory in the four-degree Achensee. After a shock cooling with a bucket of ice water, the aim is to jump into the lake from a height of three metres, swim 25 metres to an iceberg, climb it, ring the New Year's Eve bell and swim back to the shore.
Numerous onlookers will cheer the courage of the New Year's Eve swimmers at the turn of the year. The three first-place finishers who come closest to the average time of all participants will receive a total prize money of 1,000 euros. At the New Year's Eve swim there is also a FUN competition every year, where creative swimmers jump into Lake Achensee in disguise. The most original costumes are awarded with great prizes.
