News from the Wilder Kaiser

Updated 01.02.2022

E-SkiBus and new magazine, winter photo and enjoyment tours and a voucher campaign for hospital staff - that's the news in February.

Hibernation? There's no such thing at the Wilder Kaiser, where the credo is: make good things even better and keep developing. That's why, despite the - let's say - not entirely uncomplicated starting situation, we have continued to fine-tune our offers for this winter. On the one hand, to offer guests and locals new experiences and, on the other hand, to further develop the region in terms of sustainable self-image and to further improve the quality of life. "The first live test of electric ski buses, the free ice-skating rink also for locals, our magazine for year-round inspiration and other new quality-oriented offers such as the Winter Genusswanderung show that we are consistently working on our vision of 'quality of life through sustainable tourism'. This also includes the cross-regional fundraising campaign for the hospital staff, whom I would like to thank personally for their tireless work under the most difficult conditions during the pandemic," says TVB Managing Director Lukas Krösslhuber.

Winter Pleasure Hike

In the meantime, we have been enjoying the "Wilder Kaiser Marketplace" for almost a year. Regional producers and suppliers are listed on a platform and portrayed in videos on the Wilder Kaiser blog and on social media. The products and the project are very popular, and now a winter programme item on the topic has also been included in the Wilder Kaiser activity programme: The "Winter Genusswanderung" from Going to Ellmau. Every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., hiking guide Petra visits various marketplace businesses and, of course, an excellent regional snack awaits the participants at the end. All information and registration here.

Photo hike with professionals

Together with one of our favourite photographers, Mathäus Gartner, and a hiking guide, we will explore the wintry region. We will go to beautiful "Platzln" that you might not find on your own - magical winter atmosphere, crunching snow, red cheeks and fresh, cold air and new perspectives included. Along the way, you'll get tips from professionals on how to let every motif shine "in the best light". On this photo tour you will also learn what needs to be considered in the search for the perfect picture in the nature reserve, in order to behave respectfully towards nature and animals. Whatever views the tour leads to, one thing is certain: the perfect holiday photos are guaranteed! All info, dates and registration here.

Ice skating rink in the Söll village centre

Whether you conjure up pirouettes on the ice with perfect posture or still skate awkwardly - it doesn't matter, everyone is welcome at the ice rink in the centre of Söll! And not just ice skaters, but also those who prefer curling to skating laps on blades. Ice skating is free of charge, skates and curling sticks can be rented for 1 and 3 euros respectively. A rink fee of 20 euros is charged for curling. All information and opening hours here.

Electric SkiBus in Test

Local mobility in the Wilder Kaiser region has been one of the tourism association's central fields of action for several years. After all, if you want your guests to forego journeys in their own cars or, ideally, travel by train at all, you have to provide a comprehensible, sensible and comfortable public service. With the KaiserJet in summer and the ski buses in winter, the Wilder Kaiser region offers its guests exactly that - now it is a question of making this offer as environmentally friendly as possible. Therefore, in February in Ellmau and in March in Söll there will be the first test runs with an electric bus as a ski bus, in order to gain impressions and insights into the long-term sustainable design of the bus network.

Söll piste tours

Getting to the top of the mountain under your own steam in winter is becoming increasingly popular. This is also noticeable in the ski resorts: Those who do not have the knowledge, experience and technique to go out into the open terrain prefer to go up prepared and secured slopes. In order to avoid new dangers (e.g. from piste equipment) or conflicts, SkiWelt Söll has now created its own offer for piste tours: Two marked ascent routes (one leisurely flat via the moonlight toboggan run, the other partly steep via the valley run) can be used at certain times. Those who do not have a season ticket or other valid ski pass must pay a fee of 10 euros at the vending machine at the ski touring car park. All info and times here.

#wirzusammen: Vouchers for hospital staff

Together, the tourism professionals of the Tyrolean lowlands set a sign of appreciation and respect for the work in the surrounding hospitals: Until the end of the winter season, nine tourism associations will collect vouchers that will go to the staff of the hospitals in Kufstein and St. Johann as a small "thank you". For two years now they have been doing a superhuman job - under the most difficult conditions. As tourism associations we cannot turn the relevant screws in the health system to improve the situation in the hospitals in the long term, that is the task of politics. What we can do in our sphere of influence, however, is to convey our support, our solidarity and a small "thank you", a sign of appreciation, to the staff of the surrounding hospitals. That is why the tourism associations Alpbachtal, Kaiserwinkl, Kufsteinerland, Wilder Kaiser, Wildschönau as well as the four Kitzbühel Alpine associations Brixental, Hohe Salve, Pillerseetal and St. Johann in Tirol are collecting vouchers for leisure activities together with their members. How to participate in the campaign - whether a large business or a single private person - can be read here.

Magazine for year-round inspiration

The Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association has created a new print product - a completely new kind of inspirational magazine about the region. The claim? Nothing less than to present the most beautiful sides, experiences and places of the four Kaiser resorts Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll. But it is not divided into the classic "summer" and "winter" sections - the new magazine with the title "Even more beautiful in real life" is intended to provide readers with inspiration for the whole year. Because that is exactly what the Wilder Kaiser region is all about: It has special experiences to offer in every season. Whether it's a mystical autumn sunrise tour that takes you high above the clouds to breakfast on the mountain, or the best tips on how to make the most of the

Or the best tips on how to combine spring skiing in the morning with an enjoyable bike tour in the afternoon. In this way, the magazine is not least intended to make a contribution to welcoming guests even more evenly throughout the year. Because that is clearly one of the goals anchored in the region's self-image and future strategy: to ensure an excellent quality of life for everyone living, holidaying and working here. And this also includes flattening out occupancy peaks and not just concentrating guests and value creation on a few months.

The magazine is available free of charge directly from the information offices in Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll. Media representatives can order a viewing or review copy at t.aigner@wilderkaiser.info.
