New format at the Schlickeralm Run

Updated on 19.08.2022

On 3 September 2022, four races will take place on a single day in Telfes in the Stubai Valley.

With the successful staging of the 20th Mountain Running Masters World Championships last year, the organisers of the Schlickeralmlauf have shown that they can smoothly implement an event with around 800 participants. For the 33rd edition of the internationally popular mountain run, they have decided on a new format for the programme. All four races will take place on the same day. This means that the runners in the main competition as well as the participants in the Telfer Wiesen Run, the children's run and the charity run will start one after the other in Telfes im Stubaital on 3 September 2022. There will also be a new relay classification for the Telfer Wiesen Run.

In the more than 30 years of its existence, the Schlickeralmlauf has proven time and again that it is always open to further development and is up to the task of organising mountain running events. Be it with adjustments to the course, the inclusion of additional disciplines or the organisation of major mountain running events such as world and European championships.

Above all, it is thanks to the more than 150 helpers of the team around the Telfes sports club that the Schlickeralmlauf weekend is a success every year. "This year, too, there will be some innovations to make the Schlickeralmlauf and the supporting programme even more attractive for everyone. For the first time this year, all competitions - the Schlickeralmlauf, the children's runs, the charity run and the Telfer Wiesen Run - will take place on one day: On Saturday, 3 September 2022, it's "Everything is running" in Telfes!", announce the organisers.

The main competition, the Schlickeralm Run, starts at 09:00 in the morning. The participants of the long distance (11.5 km) start in Telfes and the runners of the short distance (7.5 km) at 9.30 am at the Froneben middle station in the Schlick 2000 hiking centre. The finish for both distances is at the Kreuzjochbahn mountain station at 2,136 metres above sea level.

In the afternoon, from 2.30 pm, the children's races and the charity run will take place in the village centre of Telfes. The focus here is on fun, participation and taking part.

Just like the Telfer Wiesen Run, which has been part of the programme for seven years. "What's new is that the 8.1 kilometre course can now also be completed by teams of two. For the first time, there is a relay classification that can be tackled by families, friends, clubs or companies. Great prizes await the winners!", promise the organisers Andreas Stern and the chairman of SV Telfes, Benedikt Müller. The winner is the relay team whose time is closest to the average time. In other words, the time between the fastest and slowest relay team.

The Stubai Valley has established itself as a mountain running destination, which Adrian Siller, Chairman of the Stubai Tyrol Tourism Association, happily confirms: "Thanks to its diverse alpine landscape with meadows, forests, mountain pastures and the glacier, our valley offers varied terrain for mountain runners and trail runners. In addition to the ideal conditions, the professional organisation of events such as the Stubai Ultratrail and the Schlickeralmlauf have led to international recognition and attention in the running scene. This has also been confirmed by the fact that we, together with Innsbruck, have been awarded the contract to organise the Mountain Running and Trail Running World Championships for 2023."
