After the Woodstock of brass music and the Int. Musikkapellentreffen, the next event in the Brixental music calendar is coming up: from 16 to 19 June, Kirchberg will be the stage for choirs at the Int. Gesangsvereinstreffen. But there is also a lot going on around the concerts of the participating groups on these days, such as the traditional Antlassritt on Corpus Christi.
Almost 20 groups from Austria, Germany and Switzerland will let their voices resound together in the Brixen Valley during the four-day choir meeting. The repertoire ranges from classical folk songs to current pieces from the pop and rock genres. In addition to local singing groups, the "Shanty Chor Achtern Diek der Marinekameradschaft Wetzlar" will also be on board, which has already demonstrated its skills in several radio broadcasts.
A highlight at the start: the Antlass Ride
The musical get-together will kick off with a craft and farmers' market in the centre of Kirchberg, which opens its doors at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 16 June. At 1 p.m. the Kirchberg music band invites you to a concert in the village square, before around 80 riders ride through the streets on their decorated horses at 2 p.m. - a custom that has been practised in the Brixen Valley for over 300 years and impresses locals and visitors alike with an impressive procession on Corpus Christi Day. The riders from Brixen, Westendorf and Kirchberg meet in front of the parish church in Brixen and ride along the main road to Kirchberg to the chapel in Klausen. They will be accompanied by the Kirchberg and Aschau bands.
At 4 p.m. in Kirchberg, the brass band will once again set the tone - the Musikkapelle Aschau will give a concert. At 5 p.m., it's time for the choirs to take on vocal formations for the first time. After the official welcome, the more than 250 singers who have travelled to Kirchberg will perform a song together.
The Night of the Choirs in the Parish Churches of Kirchberg and Brixen
On Friday, the participating groups will go on a guided hike at 10 a.m. to mountain inns and alpine huts, where they will sing and make music while enjoying a cosy get-together. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the choirs will perform in the village square of Kirchberg before the next highlight at 8 p.m. in the parish church of Kirchberg and Brixen: the Night of the Choirs. Twelve choirs will sing their songs there from 8 to 9 pm.
Saturday starts at 9 a.m. with a Holy Mass in the parish church of Kirchberg including musical accompaniment. From 10.30 a.m., the choirs can be heard again at the festival on the village square before they bid a festive farewell on Sunday. So friends of good sound know where the best address is from 16 to 19 June.
