Mechatronics expanded to include Design & Innovation

With the launch of the first mechatronics degree programme in western Austria in 2008, MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® caused a sensation and initiated a development that has triggered an enormous surge in innovation in Tyrol. this was followed in 2011 by a mechatronics master's programme, the first technical master's programme in English in western Austria. 700 alumni have now completed an MCI mechatronics degree.

After 13 extremely successful years in which the Bachelor's program has been successively expanded and enriched with innovative topics, the next leap in quality and expansion will take place in autumn 2022. First-year students will no longer have to choose between different branches of study before starting their studies, but will be able to design the updated Mechatronics, Design & Innovation* degree programme themselves on an ongoing basis from a large selection of newly created elective modules.

These are highly topical subjects such as Internet of Things, Collaborative Robotics, E-Mobility or Data Science that complement proven subjects in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering and computer science. The alumni are equipped with design competence in construction, circuit design, controller design, software design, etc. beyond classic product development. Together with economic cross-sectional subjects such as management and entrepreneurship, students will find a particularly multi-layered range of studies with future-oriented topics, which rightly carries the term "innovation" in its title.

MCI Rector Andreas Altmann explains: "MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® lives, teaches and promotes entrepreneurship in its technical study programmes as well as in the management area. This makes our alumni particularly sought after in the business world."

Head of the Department of Mechatronics Andreas Mehrle adds: "With the new flexible study model, students can focus on mechanical or electrical engineering as before. Now, however, a variety of combinations, additions and rounding off are also possible, which makes the degree programme even stronger, more modern and internationally more attractive."

Application now possible *Subject to accreditation by the Austrian quality assurance agency AQ Austria.
