The Innsbruck region shows itself to be a true multi-talent - in addition to its diverse range of sports, it also offers numerous international event highlights for classical music lovers: whether at historic venues or in front of a breathtaking mountain backdrop - the events of the Summer of Culture score points again this year with extraordinary locations. A unique highlight: the concert "Piano Passion on the Top of Innsbruck" with Katie Mahan at over 2,000 metres.
"I need both: the city and the mountains. That's what I am. I love this combination!" enthuses the American professional pianist Katie Mahan during her visit to Innsbruck a few weeks ago. As a cultural activist, she immediately fell in love with Innsbruck's musical diversity. No wonder, top-class events combined with the year-round offers simply make cultural hearts beat faster. Many an event location is also at the highest level: for example, Katie Mahan will transform Innsbruck's Hafelekar at over 2,000 metres above sea level into a unique musical stage for her concert on 1 July 2022. Not quite as high, but just as surrounded by spectacular natural scenery, is the venue for the Klassik am Berg concert on the Muttereralm. Unforgettable experience highlights in the city - and yet with a view of the surrounding mountain peaks - are promised by the courtyard of the Hofburg with the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts as well as the historic playgrounds of the Innsbruck Early Music Festival. "I love playing in really unusual places because they bring the music to life for me. Because music reflects life and is made by real people. And these people are inspired by those places that they have seen and visited," Katie Mahan is looking forward to the concert at the Hafelekar.
But it is not only in summer that Katie encounters a comprehensive range of cultural offerings during her foray through the Innsbruck region - the numerous cultural institutions offer entertainment for every taste all year round. In addition to exhibitions and productions by the Tyrolean Provincial Museums and the Tyrolean Provincial Theatre, smaller institutions and events - from open-air cinema in the Zeughaus to poetry slams in the "Bäckerei" - create unforgettable wow moments. Places like the legendary venue and eatery "Treibhaus" - a true institution among locals - offer further reasons to return to Innsbruck.
Summer highlight: "Piano Passion on the Top of Innsbruck" with Katie Mahan
The American professional pianist, who lives in Salzburg, has always loved playing in unusual places. This summer, the Hafelekar on Innsbruck's Nordkette will honour this love when Katie Mahan performs classical masterpieces by Gershwin, Schubert, Liszt and Mozart at the "Top of Innsbruck" at an altitude of over 2,000 metres on 1 July 2022. The summer concert is considered a special highlight of this year's calendar of events and, with its extraordinary location, promises another unforgettable "once-in-a-lifetime" experience in the Innsbruck region. Best of all, the Innsbruck Nordkettenbahnen are giving away a total of 50×2 concert tickets including a champagne reception and finger food before the concert begins. The regular rail fares of the Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen apply for the ascent and descent, alternatively both the Freizeitticket Tirol and the Innsbruck Card are valid. Experience even more event highlights in the summer in the Innsbruck regionNotonly Katie looks for unusual locations for her concerts, but also the Tyrolean chamber orchestra InnStrumenti: in the midst of high alpine nature, it invites you to the summer open-air concert Klassik am Berg at the Muttereralm mountain station. In front of a dreamlike mountain backdrop, listeners enjoy fabulous music and relocate the classical concert hall to the high alpine nature with folding chair or picnic blanket. The 27th Innsbruck Promenade Concerts are also a must-see in the summer of culture: In the time-honoured courtyard of the Innsbruck Hofburg, renowned orchestras from eleven nations come together to thrill locals and guests with open-air concerts on balmy summer evenings. Musical "encounters" are to be discovered at the 46th Innsbruck Festival of Early Music in historic venues from Ambras Palace Innsbruck to the Imperial Hofburg. As one of the most renowned festivals of Baroque music in Europe, it transforms Innsbruck into a centre for Renaissance and Baroque music for a few weeks.
