Updated 31.12.2022

WELL OVER 100 "WATER RATS" AT THE 20TH EDITION OF THE POPULAR FUN EVENT.

Weird costumes, relaxed atmosphere and cool water rats en masse - when the turn of the year is approaching at Lake Achensee, you feel like you're in the midst of carnival. Every year, the New Year's Eve swim is once again a whimsical highlight in the region's winter programme, and this time was no exception: numerous spectators were finally able to cheer on the exactly 100 participants in the sports competition as well as seven costumed groups at the New Year's Eve swim at Lake Achensee. In the "Sport" category, the Austrian Florian Neuhauser won. And in the "Fun" competition there was not a dry eye in the house, because after a two-year break due to the pandemic, the cold-resistant New Year's Eve swimmers were particularly creative in terms of outfits and shows this year.

For the first time in two years, the diving club "Black Divers Tirol" invited people to the New Year's Eve swim at Lake Achensee. The crowds at the Pertisau lake promenade were huge: well over 100 participants took part this time and the daring water rats had to prove their resistance to the cold: A water temperature of five degrees Celsius, a jump height of three metres and a swimming distance of 50 metres - these were the challenges for the "Sport" category, in which the swimmers competed in pairs in the battle against their inner swine. For the first time, there was a separate women's and men's classification this year: Eva Frisch was fastest in the women's category (00:52.27). In the men's category Peter Trutschnigg (00:39,45) finished first. Fabian Neuhauser, on the other hand, came closest to the average time of all participants (01:22.36) with his time of 01:22.28. The winners were rewarded with a total prize money of 1,000 euros.

In the special "Fun" category, on the other hand, the most creative water rats were awarded prizes. Among others, "Darth Vader", the "Schwimmgruppe 2023" and some other creatively dressed up "water rats" ventured to the start in funny costumes. With their weird outfits and daredevil jumps, they caused a lot of laughter and applause. The participants were rewarded with prizes for their heroic efforts and original costumes. All those interested can get an impression of what "top performances" were achieved in this context in the photo gallery. Soon, a photo carpet will also provide great impressions of the Achensee New Year's Eve Swim.
