Tschingls and Höll are the names of the two new attractive bouldering areas for beginners and experienced climbers.
The Tyrolean Oberland Tourism Association is opening two new bouldering areas in the Kaunertal & Tyrolean Oberland adventure areas this spring. These two new, easily accessible outdoor bouldering areas expand the climbing offer in the adventure areas and thus strengthen the sporting offer of the holiday region. The bouldering area in Pfunds near Tschingls in the direction of the Reschen Pass and the Höll bouldering area in the Kaunertal are suitable for beginners and advanced climbers and also offer crisp challenges for professionals.
Bouldering and archery
The Tschingls bouldering area was realised by the Tyrolean Oberland tourism association together with Nauder climbing expert Rudi Klinec. (Project sum of 4,000 euros, 40 per cent of which was funded by the Tyrolean Department of Landscape Services). It offers 58 open problems and 18 boulders and is located in an archery course, so that those interested can practise two exciting sports in one day. The Tiroler Oberland Adventure Centre provides free equipment hire (bouldering mats, brushes and chalk bags) directly at the bouldering area. A barbecue area and catering facilities, such as the Fischeralm, can also be found on site. Access to the bouldering area is around 15 minutes' walk from the shared car park of the archery course and the bouldering area. Particularly attractive and climate-friendly: the bouldering area is also easily accessible by bike.(www.tiroler-oberland.com)
"Thanks to the easy accessibility by bike, the location right next to the archery course and the free mat hire on site in Tschingls, we are also creating an additional, exciting outdoor offer for spontaneous visitors," explains Toni Monz, CEO of the TVB Tiroler Oberland.
30 grippy gneiss boulders
The Höll bouldering area in the Kaunertal nature park and glacier region offers a wide variety of difficulty levels from 4c-8a and a block height of 2-5 metres with over 140 problems on 30 gneiss blocks with a good grip. (Investment sum of Euro 8,000, much of which was covered by own labour). The area is located between the hamlets of Boden and Vergötschen on the valley floor at 1200 metres in a sunny wooded area. The blocks can be reached quickly with an ascent of 1-5 minutes. Due to the altitude, the climbing temperatures are pleasant even in midsummer. On colder days, the boulders at the edge of the forest are suitable. May to October is the best time to try out the boulder problems.(www.kaunertal.com)
TVB Chairman Dr Armin Falkner is delighted with the two new bouldering areas: "The two bouldering areas are a sensible and good addition to the climbing offer in the Tyrolean Oberland and perfectly complement our alpine expertise. The collaboration with local climbers has worked wonderfully and resulted in two top areas. From the coming summer season, there will be a wide range of attractive bouldering opportunities in the region for beginners and pros alike."
Climbers Paradise platform
Both bouldering areas now also enrich Tyrol's largest online sports climbing platform "Climbers Paradise" (climbers-paradise.com), which presents the best tours and routes in the region for every level of difficulty with topos for downloading and "local tips". The topos of the new bouldering areas can also be downloaded there or from the homepages of the adventure centres.
