Kitzbühel Tourismus verstärkt Langlauf-Kompetenz

Updated 22.02.2022

This winter, too, the WinterClassics are particularly trendy - a good reason for Kitzbühel Tourism to focus on the Nordic version of skiing and thus strengthen the cross-country skiing competence in the region.

Cross-country skiing is the trend

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of cross-country skiing enthusiasts in the Kitzbühel region has increased. It is good that Kitzbühel Tourism has been investing in this winter product for years with its partners Kitzbüheler Ski Club and Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel. The more than 70 kilometres of cross-country ski trails in the association area are maintained by Kitzbühel Tourism's construction yard and are available to locals and guests free of charge, depending on snow conditions.

To ensure the best possible quality of the trails, Kitzbühel Tourism employs up to five people in winter shifts around the two main managers David Stadelmann and Guido Hechenberger to prepare the trails. A total of 700 hours have already been invested in this work, some of which is done twice a day.

Successful cooperation

In cooperation with the Kitzbühel Ski Club, under the management of Toni Ehrensperger, a snow-covered and thus snow-sure variant with daily lighting until 9 p.m. is also provided free of charge on the sports trails at the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith golf course. The cross-country skiing and biathlon performance centre of the Nordic training groups of the K.S.C. is also the home of ÖSV Biathlo starlet Lisa Hauser from Reith.

The high-altitude cross-country trails of the Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel also create another attractive offer for cross-country skiing enthusiasts.

NEW | The status of all cross-country trails is reported daily via a digital interface and made available on the website langlaufen.kitzbuehel.com. In addition, all interested members of Kitzbühel Tourism have the option of integrating the trail status into their own website.

Kitzbühel Tourism Managing Director Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser is keen to make the entire range of cross-country skiing trails in the region available free of charge and to maintain the status on a daily basis: "We are delighted that we are further enhancing the attractiveness of Kitzbühel as a place to live with our extensive range of cross-country skiing facilities. The increased efforts in the area of trail management and digital interfaces have been very successful this winter and we are constantly receiving positive feedback on our efforts to serve the WinterClassics theme leadership as an important additional product to classic skiing in the best possible way."

Kitzbühel's big five for winter

In addition to the efforts in the cross-country skiing area, the Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel took the initiative to work together on expanding the range of pistes. There is also up-to-date information about the possibility of night piste tours - a particularly popular after-work activity - at skitouren.kitzbuehel.com. With the Big Five - the five most prominent winter activities in winter - Kitzbühel Tourism is consolidating the success factor "Outdoor Active" in its communication, which was defined as a core service within the framework of the vision for the future.

TIP | Guided snowshoe and winter hikes are offered free of charge from Monday to Friday by Kitzbühel Tourism for all guests with a guest card.
