Kaiserkrone Trail 2022: Das sind die Gewinner*innen

Updated 26.06.2022

TheTyrolean Dominik Matt won the extremely demanding Skyrace with aplomb, while Rosanna Buchauer (GER) shone in the Marathon Trail with third place overall

All in all, four different competitions - and of course the "Kids Trail" on Friday - were held during the Kaiserkrone Trail: the Skyrace (24.7 kilometres/2730 metres in altitude), the Marathon Trail (56 kilometres/3810 metres in altitude), the Speed Trail (20.4 kilometres/1430 metres in altitude) and the Easy Trail (14 kilometres/490 metres in altitude). In the best conditions, a total of around 400 runners were at the start. And while the motto was "To be there is everything", the top athletes at the top fought for the best time in their respective disciplines.

Of course, the spectacular sky race, which leads over two peaks of the Wilder Kaiser and is considered extremely demanding with an extremely technical course, was of particular interest. Here, the "local" from the Unterland, Dominik Matt, prevailed against the strong competition: With 03:41:24:41 he took first place ahead of Tobias Geiser and Manuel Zorn. In the women's race, victory went to Frenchwoman Cloé Prud'homme, who still had a score to settle with the course from last year. Miria Meinheit and Sonja Kinna from Germany finished second and third.

On the "long distance", the Kaiserkrone Marathon, which leads once around the entire Wilder Kaiser on 57 kilometres and almost 4,000 metres of altitude, Markus Stock took the victory. The women's race was won by Germany's Rosanna Buchauer, who not only became the women's winner with her top time of 07:13:58.08, but also took third place overall behind the first two men, faster than the third-placed man in the men's race and only 10 seconds slower than the second-placed man.

Comments on the race

For winners and organisers the Kaiserkrone Trail 2022 was a complete success. Organiser Thomas Bosnjak sums up with satisfaction: "It was a very cool weekend, we are very happy and proud that we had a good number of participants again. We were very pleased that the children's races could take place again this year, which are always a little "highlight" - it was a great start on Friday. On Saturday for the adults everything went perfectly, the weather was good - simply a dream at the Wilder Kaiser."

Scheffau's tourism manager, Marcus Sappl, is also thrilled with the second edition of the Kaiserkrone Trail: "Last year we were already able to get an impression of what is possible in terms of running at the Wilder Kaiser - we are very pleased that top performances were also achieved in 2022. This is certainly also due to the excellent atmosphere along the trails. Thank you to everyone who was there." He also reveals the date for the next edition of the Kaiserkrone Trail: on 23 and 24 June 2023, the Wilder Kaiser will once again be the venue for the imperial running event.

Kaiserkrone 2022 as a "Green Event

Incidentally, a new feature of this year's edition of the Kaiserkrone Trail was that the event was certified as a "Green Event" - this means that various criteria have to be met: Among other things, only regional food is used, no plastic disposable tableware is used (neither at the finish nor at the refreshment stations) or, for example, that the train journey to the event is advertised and much more. The Kaiserkrone Trail thus fits into the philosophy at the Wilder Kaiser - where many events are already implemented as "green events" and this should apply to all events in the long term.

Thanks to the supporters

And because the results of the runners would never be possible without the enormous organisational effort in the background, the organisers would like to thank the numerous helpers in particular: From culinary supplies for the runners to course markings, refreshment stations, safety tasks and so on, there was support from the region and from dedicated helpers from all over.
