Ischgl and Galtür are launching a cooperation with the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and the two cross-country skiing aces Teresa Stadlober and Mika Vermeulen this winter. As part of the cooperation, the ideal training conditions of the cross-country skiing region of Ischgl and Galtür will be brought even more to the forefront in the future. The two top athletes are also part of the fixed starting field for the cross-country skiing event series "Galtür Nordic Volumes" from 31 March to 2 April 2023.
ÖSV squad athletes as ambassadors for Ischgl and Galtür
The 29-year-old ÖSV squad athlete Teresa Stadlober already competed in her first cross-country race at the age of four. In recent years Stadlober has been able to establish herself in the cross-country World Cup and is now one of the world's elite. One of the highlights of her career so far is winning the bronze medal in the skiathlon at the Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022.
Austrian cross-country skier Mika Vermeulen is 23 years old and he also competed in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. in 2020, he competed in the World Cup for the first time and became Austrian champion over 15 kilometres. Before Vermeulen switched to cross-country skiing in 2018, he gained international experience in Nordic combined as a teenager.
At the "Galtür Nordic Volumes" from 31 March to 2 April 2023, there will be the opportunity to experience the two top athletes live on site. Stadlober and Vermeulen will compete against international cross-country skiers in exciting competitions. The programme includes the Nordic Night Race, a race for schoolchildren, the three-man relay XC Team Relay and the Cross Country Climb to the Bielerhöhe. In the races, amateur runners can compete side by side with professionals on the Galtür trails for a total prize money of 10,000 euros. Cross-country skiing in Ischgl and Galtür
With a 73-kilometre-long, interconnected network of cross-country ski trails, Ischgl and Galtür offer cross-country skiing enthusiasts ideal conditions and entice them with varied routes of all levels of difficulty. Thanks to an altitude range from 1,377 to over 2,036 metres, the cross-country trails are guaranteed snow from December until April. Comfortable infrastructure, cross-country skiing courses and excellent service included. In addition, you have the opportunity to stay in one of the many hotels located directly on the cross-country trail. Use of the trails in Ischgl and Galtür is free of charge and all routes can be downloaded as GPS tracks. Another highlight is the 2.2-kilometre-long floodlit trail from Galtür to Wirl, which is lit daily until 10 p.m. for night owls.
