Ötztal Tourism receives 17th century gem Mesner Haus as contact point for guests and locals.
The Mesner Haus in the centre of the spa community of Längenfeld has recently become a contact point for guests and locals. In the former Tyrolean inn, Ötztal Tourismus now satisfies the hunger for information of holidaymakers on 400 m², sells the products of regional producers and makes its members fit for the future in terms of digitalisation. The province of Tyrol supported the adaptation of the listed building.
How can a former restaurant be adapted to the needs of Tyrol's largest tourism association? This was the question that those responsible for Ötztal Tourism asked themselves when they acquired the listed Mesner Haus in Längenfeld. The original building was constructed in the 17th century. In 1988 the former Widum was transformed into an inn. Recently it has been home to the Längenfeld Information Centre, office space, event space, regional shop, service flats and an e-bike charging station outside. The former winter garden in the restaurant has been transformed into an information counter. Where fresh food used to be prepared in the kitchen, the employees of the tourism association now work at their desks. The valley-wide departments for registration and the coaches for the landlords are housed here. In total, there are workplaces for eleven employees. A special form of cooperation between tourism and local producers is practised in the regional shop. Products from the entire Ötztal, such as honey from Längenfeld, brandies from Sautens or sheep's wool products from Umhausen can be purchased directly during opening hours.
"Of course we would have preferred to keep the house as a restaurant. But the former tenant no longer wanted to run the inn and there was no suitable successor. In this situation it was absolutely the right decision for us to acquire this gem," says Oliver Schwarz, Director of Ötztal Tourism. At the official opening, which was also attended by 170 members from the entire Ötztal as part of the landlords' meeting, he received unanimously positive feedback. "Our members are happy that we are filling this unique house with new life and that a place of encounter and communication is being created here," reports Schwarz. He sees cooperation with farmers as the order of the day in terms of regionality. The importance that local tourism experts attach to their own history and traditions can be seen from the great interest in the Ötztal museums. Almost 75 participants at the landlords' meeting took the opportunity to visit them
The listed part of the building with the historic parlours on the ground floor and the 50 m² Bishop's Room as an event hall offer enough space for exchange. In future, the space will be used for landlord training courses and the seminar room will be open to local associations. The new location was financed by the Infrastruktureuro Längenfeld and with funds from the valley association. In addition, there is financial support from the province of Tyrol for the preservation of the valuable historical ensemble.
