When the days become shorter, the leaves of the trees more colourful and the distant view of the imposing mountains crystal clear, autumn is around the corner - "Herbstl'n tuats". High time to enjoy the fresh mountain air and the spectacular play of colours in nature
Whether on an excursion to the adventure worlds, on a hike with culinary delicacies at the huts, alpine pastures and inns or traditional events - the Zell-Gerlos region, Zillertal Arena has many autumn highlights in store.
Worlds of experience surrounded by the colourful mountain world
Variety, fun and games for the whole family are guaranteed in the adventure worlds of Zell-Gerlos. Even in autumn, they invite you to take a trip up the mountain and make children's eyes sparkle. The mighty Spruce Castle and the Spruce Lake on the Rosenalm open their gates until 09 October. The Gerlosstein cable car with its idyllic alpine paradise will take you to your mountain adventure until 26 October. Down in the valley, the Zell am Ziller leisure park and the adventure land in Gerlos offer plenty of entertainment for young and old in autumn.
The Adventure Land Gerlos comes into focus on 01 September - the Radio Tirol Summer Freshness tours the country again and makes a stopover in Gerlos. Numerous programme highlights at the MTB course with pump track or in the high ropes course and interesting explanations about nature, forest and bees promise an adventure-filled day.
The exciting family nest week programme in Zell-Gerlos still ensures a varied daily routine for all kids and teens from the age of 5 in autumn. Until 08 September in Gerlos and until 09 September in Zell am Ziller, no day is like the other when our trained Family Nest supervisors organise the leisure time. In Gerlos, a special autumn programme has been designed for the colourful season, which will be continued after a short break from 26 September to 07 October.
Hiking autumn
Autumn is known for the glitter of the morning dew and the mystical mist that still hangs in the valley in the early morning. These phenomena and the fresh mountain air invite you to hike the beautiful places of the Zell-Gerlos region. Discover the picturesque side valleys Schwarzachtal, Wimmertal, Schönachtal, Krummbachtal and the Wildgerlostal or the Zillertaler Höhenstraße in their autumnal splendour.
The colourful season is also perfect for starting the day with a magical moment. A sunrise hike is best combined with a subsequent breakfast in the rustic mountain huts. The numerous huts and alpine pastures in Zell-Gerlos promise enjoyment at its best and serve delicious Tyrolean delicacies made mainly from regional products. Autumn is also all about music - many mountain huts and restaurants frame the "golden" days with live music
Active relaxation, peace and contemplation in the beautiful mountain nature can be experienced by all guests of the Zell-Gerlos region, Zillertal Arena at the "ActiveWellness Programme", which offers gentle hikes and various health & relaxation exercises until 23 September.
The Zillertal farmers' markets in Zell and Gerlos also promise regionality. Take the opportunity to visit the local stall holders - the last Zillertal farmers' market in Zell am Ziller takes place on 21 September and in Gerlos on 22 September
If you are looking for a pleasurable "time out" in the mountains, the ORF Radio Tirol Auszeit is just the right place. Here you have to listen carefully, because every week the listeners have the opportunity to win a spontaneous culinary wellness holiday, among others also in Zell-Gerlos in the Zillertal Arena.
Customs and the end of summer
Music can be found in the golden autumn as well as traditional events and the continuation of customs. After the summer, it is time for cattle and shepherds to move back down into the valley. The driving down of the alpine pastures is part of the farming season and an absolute highlight of the mountain autumn. At the traditional Schaflschoade on 10 September in Gerlos, the sheep return from the alpine pastures in the Schönach Valley to the valley, where they are sheared in the centre of Gerlos. The autumn festival with music and culinary delicacies opens with the marching in of the Gerlos Federal Music Band. At the Almabtriesfesten in Zell & Gerlos on 24 September, the farmers make their way home to the valley with their proudly "tufted" alpine cattle. In both villages this festival is celebrated with a varied supporting programme and musical entertainment.
As the end of summer approaches, the weekly concerts in the square also come to an end. The Bundesmusikkapelle Zell am Ziller plays its last concert on 15 September, while the Bundesmusikkapelle Gerlos continues to show off its musical skills until 21 September.
