Handwerk in 3D: Im Höfemuseum blickt man hinter die Kulissen von Handwerksbetrieben

Updated 07.08.2022

The extraordinary exhibition "All Craft. Between Cliché and Everyday Life" offers unusual glimpses behind the scenes of craftsmanship. On Friday, the exhibition, which is well worth seeing, was opened at the Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe. A highlight is the 3D tour through the workshops of the craftsmen.

Kramsach - What is handicraft? This is the question that the Handicrafts Network addresses in its current exhibition at the Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe. The vernissage took place in a small, select circle. Curated by architect Christian Dummer, "Alles Handwerk. Between Cliché and Everyday Life" looks behind the scenes. The exhibition concept is spatially designed and tells the history and development of specific crafts.

"In the exhibition, we don't want to show a show of works in the historical setting of the Höfemuseum, but an exhibition that encourages visitors to engage with contemporary crafts - as a deliberate contrast to the old," says Andrea Achrainer of Netzwerk Handwerk. The diversity of crafts is highlighted in text, sound, images and by means of virtual reality. Materials can be experienced visually and haptically. Touching is allowed. In their approaches and in their daily work, they and craftsmen show what qualities craftsmen and craftswomen bring with them and must bring with them today in order to survive in a globalised world. "Especially in a time of scarcity, we should bear in mind what we were and are able to produce ourselves in our country," says Thomas Bertagnolli, curator of the Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe. You have to take time for the exhibition to experience the topic of handicrafts with all your senses.

Audio and video presentations give insight into the work of the craftsmen, in interviews they talk about their passion for what they do, but also about the challenges in their daily work. A modern multimedia presentation with its finger on the pulse of the times, which as a special highlight allows a 3D tour through the craftsmen's workshops using VR (virtual reality) glasses.

The "analogue" part is completely different, with exhibits that offer a visual but also haptic experience. Nine stations present objects, each of which relates to a trade: a block of clay stands for the examination of ecological building materials, a marten for the restorer's tool - the marten-hair brush, a rough-worked stone pine block in its beauty for the timeless material wood. A cassetl for old craftsmanship that is still practised today as it was in the past. The exhibition is open daily until the end of the museum season on 31 October. Information at: www.museum-tb.at
