Grüne Mobilitäts-Offensive zum Sommerbeginn am Wilden Kaiser

Updated 03.05.2022

Professional advice on rail travel, free transfer from the station to the accommodation and free use of bicycles on site - these are further building blocks for CO2 and traffic reduction in the Wilder Kaiser region.

Quality of life through sustainable tourism, that is the self-image of the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association (TVB Wilder Kaiser). And reducing traffic in the region is an essential part of this. There are various starting points for this, and just in time for the beginning of summer, the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association is now presenting three new projects, all of which aim to offer comfortable alternatives to the car.

Green arrival by train

Together with hosts, Deutsche Bahn and Four Seasons, a mobility offensive for green travel is being launched at the Wilder Kaiser. This will make it much easier for guests to travel by public transport. In concrete terms, this means that anyone who books a room in one of the participating accommodations will be referred directly to the TVB holiday advice centre. There you will not only receive individual holiday advice, as before, but also professional travel advice - including online booking of tickets for the German and Austrian railways. Those who get off the train at Kufstein or Wörgl station are then taken directly to their accommodation with a free station shuttle and are brought back to the station on the day of departure. To make sure that you can also get around on site, i.e. between Going, Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll, guests who have opted for the "green journey" not only have the KaiserJet at their disposal, as before, but they also receive an e-bike from their accommodation for environmentally friendly travel. Either in the form of a voucher for one of the local rental companies or an in-house e-bike. "With this project, we are not only closing the much-cited 'last mile' for the guest with the free shuttle and providing a further incentive for environmentally friendly on-site mobility with the e-bike, but we are also massively professionalising our advisory service in terms of travel," says Christian Haselsberger, who is responsible for the project.

VVT REGIORAD powered by Ellmau

If you want to reduce traffic in the villages, you have to offer your guests a simple and practical way to get from A to B. The VVT REGIORAD is powered by the VVT. In the imperial town of Ellmau, 20 new "Regio Räder" (Regio Bikes) are now available - making Ellmau the first small municipality, along with the two towns of Kufstein and Innsbruck, to offer such a service. The bikes can be rented at three locations in Ellmau (mountain railway, office of the tourism association in the town centre and Kaiserbad). They are primarily intended to be used to cover distances in the village that are just too far for a walk by bike instead of by car. For owners of a Wilder Kaiser guest, staff or citizen card, the first half hour of use is free of charge, the second half hour costs 2 euros and after that you pay 3 euros for each full hour and a maximum of 9 euros for 24 hours. "I am very pleased to have set up this project together with the municipality of Ellmau, Kufstein Mobil and Verkehrsverbund Tirol in such a short time. We would also like to thank the Ellmau mountain railway and the Kaiserbad for supporting the project and allowing us to set up the rental stations at their locations," says the person responsible for the project at the TVB, Nina Holstein.

Hiking with the Ruftaxi

Free hiking and lake buses that take guests to popular hiking starting points or to Hintersteinersee are an established and very well-used component of on-site mobility in summer, alongside the (also free) KaiserJet, which connects the four Kaiser resorts of Going, Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll. From 3 June 2022, the offer will be extended even further: a call taxi for Ellmau and Going will be added. It will take guests to the Hüttling and Tannbichl hiking starting points (Going) as well as to the Haflinger drink and the Bergschenke (Ellmau) for 2 euros per person. You will be picked up by the Ruftaxi directly from your accommodation or another point in Ellmau or Going and taken to one of the four hiking starting points (and back). Simply order the taxi 30 minutes before departure on +43 5358 3912, get in and off you go hiking! Children up to 6 years of age travel free, payment in cash in the Ruftaxi. The Ruftaxi Ellmau-Going is available until 3 October 2022 from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 18:00.

Outlook: E-ski bus and parking guidance system

E-buses: Those who used the ski bus in Ellmau or Söll in the winter of 2022 may already know them: the electrically powered ski buses, which were used for the first time on a test basis this winter. The quiet, environmentally friendly buses were absolutely convincing, which is why work is now being done consistently to replace all ski and hiking buses with electrically powered models in the long term.

Parking guidance system: Another major project for which the starting signal was recently given is a holistic parking guidance system and parking management for the Wilder Kaiser region. Under the project management of Kufstein Mobil, the tourism association, municipalities, mountain railways and some private parking operators want to collect parking data and display it in a structured way. The aim is to avoid useless traffic searching for parking spaces, to make carpooling more attractive and to provide information on the right choice of destination, journey time and chosen means of transport. The first results are expected in 2023.

"All these projects are further building blocks of environmentally friendly travel and on-site mobility. According to our self-image, we are committed to continuously reducing the volume of traffic in the four towns in order to maintain the excellent quality of life in the region. Accordingly, these initiatives cost us a lot, but we consider them to be an absolutely sensible investment in the future, from which nature and people benefit in equal measure," says Lukas Krösslhuber, Managing Director of the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association. They are also aware that rethinking always starts with oneself, which is why the TVB Wilder Kaiser is already launching an internal company bike challenge for the second time. In addition, with the "Jobrad", employees have the opportunity to lease e-bikes at a favourable price in order to create more incentives to come to work by bike instead of by car.
