The Gauder Fest had numerous programme items and a wealth of traditions to offer on Saturday. After the big Noriker show, the young trachtlers marched into the Zillertal Bier festival tent as part of a magnificent parade. Things then got heated up at the Ranggel sporting competitions, where the athletes competed for the title of "Gauder Hogmoar".
From the animal exhibition in the form of the Tyrolean young Noriker mare show, the Zillertal Noriker show and the associated elections for "Miss Gauder" and "Miss Zillertal", to the colourful young tractors - who delighted the audience in the marquee with their dance performances - to the jousting for the "Gauder Hogmoar", visitors were offered a broad programme of Alpine traditions. In the evening, the bands "Sumpfkröten" and "Volxrock" performed in the completely sold-out Zillertal Bier festival tent and on the open-air square.
Wrestling for the "Gauder Hogmoar"
From Gauder Fest to Gauder Fest, the "Ranggeln" is a crowd-puller. The strongest men in the Alpine region fought numerous exciting duels in the fiercely contested competition, which were enthusiastically cheered on by the spectators. In the end, Christoph Mayer from Taxenbach was able to secure the title of "Gauder Hogmoar". Second place went to Hermann Höllwart, also from Taxenbach. In third place, Lukas Mattersberger from Matrei in East Tyrol was able to join him on the podium.
"Miss Gauder" and "Miss Zillertal" crowned
The election of "Miss Gauder" is always a highlight for everyone involved. "Britty StPr." by Johann Steiner from Matrei in East Tyrol won the coveted title at the Tyrolean Young Mare Show for Noriker mares. New this year was the title of "Miss Zillertal", which was also followed with great interest by the spectators. As part of the Zillertal Noriker show, "Alina" from breeder Werner Godez from Feistritz an der Gail and owner Johanna Mair from Stumm in the leisure park secured the award.
A piece of the Zillertal at the craft and farmers' market
The Gauder Market is also one of the fixtures at the Gauder Festival. On Saturday and Sunday, craftspeople from the region show off their skills on the pavilion square. You can admire typical Zillertal goods such as dogglen, satchels and carvings. Culinary delights include Gauder Bock from Zillertal Bier as well as local produce from farmers and beekeepers.
Austria's strongest festival beers from Zillertal Bier
Beer lovers once again had plenty of reason to celebrate at the Gauder Fest. Traditionally, the Zillertal Gauder Bock, which is brewed especially for the Gauder Fest, was served. Zillertal Bier, on whose farm the festival was originally held, has been brewing beer in Zell am Ziller for more than 500 years. The Gauder Bock is brewed every September and then left to mature for eight months. At 7.8 per cent by volume, this speciality is the strongest festival beer in Austria and has already achieved cult status. Also unique is the Zillertal Gauder Steinbock, a bock beer speciality brewed according to a recipe from the 1920s with 10.4 per cent by volume. These festival beers and other tasty beer specialities await visitors in the Zillertal Bier festival tent.
