Ganzjährig Radfahren: Pilotprojekt startet mit Erfolg

Updated 10.03.2022

Last year, the province of Tyrol decided to hand over the year-round management and maintenance of the cycle paths for four sections between Kirchbichl, Wörgl and Kundl, totalling 5.5 kilometres, to the Wörgl road maintenance department as a pilot project. The project started in January 2022 and will end in September 2022.

There are a total of 14 road maintenance depots in Tyrol. For the project, the province of Tyrol selected one relevant road maintenance depot in the Unterland and one from the Oberland. The decision was made in favour of conurbations in order to be able to observe well how the new care system is accepted by locals as well as tourists.

Josef Aufschnaiter has been road maintenance manager in Wörgl for 14 years and has 25 young, committed employees in his team, of whom he is very proud. The Wörgl road maintenance department looks after federal and provincial roads and is happy about the new opportunity to improve the infrastructure for everyone. "In winter, snow is cleared and salt is spread early in the morning every day to enable a commute to work by bike now even in winter. In addition to correcting potholes and trimming bushes, this is a significant improvement for everyone, and we notice that this new structure is already being well received by the citizens," Josef says happily.

Among other things, the installation of counting stations is planned in order to have an exact overview of how many people use the cycle paths every day. The Wörgl road maintenance department is optimistic that the pilot project will be a complete success and will then be adopted by all road maintenance departments in Tyrol.

A very special thank you goes from the Hohe Salve Holiday Region Tourist Association to the province of Tyrol. Together with the municipalities, the area of the pilot project was defined and perfectly implemented by the road maintenance staff from day one!
