On 24 September 2022, Galtür will become the Olympic venue for over 100 alpine dairymen from the Alpine region who will compete for gold, silver and bronze with their cheeses at the 28th International Almkäse Olympics. Jury criteria: Quality, taste and exclusively regional ingredients in production. Samples for visitors included.
At the 28th International Alpine Cheese Olympics on 24 September 2022, over 100 alpine dairymen from Germany, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein and Switzerland will compete and present their products to the Olympic cheese jury in Galtür. The taste winners will receive the coveted Sennerharfen in gold, silver and bronze. What does the strict jury of cheese experts from industry, trade and education look for? The exterior, interior, taste and consistency of the cheeses must harmonise perfectly. To this end, only raw milk cheeses made from fresh alpine milk on a registered, farmed alpine pasture are allowed in the competition. Those hoping for the day's victory should also meet the taste buds of a blind tasting children's jury. Only then will the golden Sennerharfe be accompanied by the coveted Dreikäsehoch prize. Tip: You don't need to be a jury member to get hold of samples on the day of the event - all the cheese delicacies on show can also be tasted and purchased by the public on site from 11 am to 6 pm. 28 years of Almkäseolympiade in Galtür
The International Almkäseolympiade has been held annually in Galtür since 1995 and is now firmly established in the alpine dairymen's diaries. The goal of the founding fathers: to offer alpine dairymen in the Alpine region a lucrative opportunity to present their cheese to a wide audience and thus create new sales markets, is as relevant today as it was then. The high sales figures of regional products and meanwhile 27 successful and well-attended Almkäseolympiaden prove that the topic of regionality is still trendy.
