Galtür invites you to the 49th Silvretta Ferwall March

Updated on 06.05.2022

High Alpine folk mountain march with tradition and views: on 20 August, participants in the 49th International Silvretta Ferwall March will explore the multifaceted mountain world around Galtür over four distances, which Hemingway already raved about.

The Silvretta Ferwall March will take place for the 49th time in Galtür on 20 August and is considered one of the most challenging, but also one of the most scenic high Alpine mountain marches in Europe. Four differently challenging distances, including a marathon route for ambitious, fit hikers, await the international participants in Tyrol's first climatic health resort. Good to know: The event is not a competition for the fastest time. The aim is to explore the unique natural scenery of Galtür, which Hemingway raved about, as part of a large "hiking community" and to have a great time together. Every participant receives a medal for their efforts. No matter whether you are a family with a pram on a treasure hunt, youngsters in medal fever or professionals on a kilometre hunt with a view. The entry fee is 20 euros for adults and 16 euros for children and young people up to the age of 17. Children under the age of five can take part free of charge.

On the way on four routes with great views

On 20 August, participants in the 49th Silvretta Ferwall March will choose their individual route and therefore their medal colour from four routes: The "supreme discipline", the very demanding "marathon route", runs over the Zeinisjoch and over the Grieskogeljoch at 2,698 metres above sea level and on to the Larein Alpe. The 42.195 kilometres and 1,955 metres in altitude are rewarded with a gold medal and a certificate of honour. The "Ferwall route" covers a distance of 32.7 kilometres and an altitude difference of 1,199 metres, also via the Zeinisjoch and Grieskogeljoch, and also rewards participants with a gold medal. The silver "Silvretta route" involves conquering 19.2 kilometres and around 618 metres in altitude via the summit of the Breitspitze.

For those who prefer a shorter, easier hike, the bronze medal tour is the right choice: the 13.5-kilometre "family route" is suitable for pushchairs and has just 150 metres of elevation gain and an exciting treasure hunt for children. Depending on the distance, the start is between 6 and 11 am. The entry fee of 20 euros for adults and 16 euros for children aged five to 17 includes drinks and light refreshments with regional specialities from the Genussregion at the refreshment stations along the way, a medal in the colour of the chosen route, admission to the indoor adventure pool and discounted admission to the Alpinarium Galtür.
