From 9 to 12 March 2023, the PillerseeTal will be the hub of the hiking world. For the third time, Tyrol will host the European Winter Hiking Days. In addition to joint exploration tours, the programme includes numerous activities related to the most popular winter sport away from the ski slopes.
After events in St. Johann in Tirol and Kartitsch, the European winter hiking scene will meet in late winter 2023 in the PillerseeTal holiday region, affectionately known as the "snow hole" . Nowhere else in Tyrol are the winters as long and snowy as here. Nestled between the Kitzbühel Alps and the Loferer Steinberge mountains , the villages of Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Jakob in Haus, Waidring and St. Ulrich am Pillersee can look forward to an incredible 6.71 metres of fresh snow per winter. This makes the region a paradise for all those who prefer to enjoy the Tyrolean snow on foot.
The PillerseeTal has long recognised the trend towards this health-promoting outdoor activity and in recent years has created a network of 100 kilometres of winter hiking trails. Some of them can be explored together with other hikers during the European Winter Hiking Days from 9 to 12 March 2023. The PillerseeTal also scores with a varied supporting programme.
Initiated by the European Hiking Association EWV, the third edition of this hiking event will not take place in Tyrol for nothing: hardly anywhere else is nature as predestined and the infrastructure as excellent as here, according to the EWV office in Kassel. Participants and locals alike can look forward to the event, as the organisers have selected the most beautiful winter hiking routes in the area. For example, local hiking guides will take you around the idyllic Pillersee lake, along the biathlon world championship trail or by lantern light to the Lauchsee lake.
The programme is aimed at persevering winter hikers, but also at the curious who are trying winter hiking for the first time. The interest is great, after all, winter hiking is the second most popular winter activity in Tyrol, right after skiing. For those who are particularly keen on hiking, there is also the possibility of booking a private winter hiking guide for individual tours as part of the supporting programme. Those interested can secure their ticket for the European Winter Hiking Days in the PillerseeTalhere now. Suitable accommodation and the hiking package can be booked at www.pillerseetal.at.
When the train arrives, the personal shuttle to the holiday flat, guesthouse or hotel is already waiting: Those who come to PillerseeTal enjoy V.I.P. service. The free taxi to and from the accommodation is only one component of the offer with which the destination promotes sustainable holiday concepts. The next day everything is easy anyway: the local buses are closely timed and included for guest card holders, as is the regional rail service between Hochfilzen and Wörgl (Kirchbichl). In the Pillerseetal itself there are three stations to choose from: Fieberbrunn, Pfaffenschwendt and Hochfilzen. If you still want to travel by car, you can recharge your vehicle in an environmentally friendly way at more than 30 e-charging stations throughout the PillerseeTal.
Info on the region: Five villages and 10,000 inhabitants - that is the Pillersee Valley, which stretches along the eastern end of the Kitzbühel Alps. Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Jakob in Haus, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Waidring combine a traditional feel-good atmosphere with a wide range of experiences. A perfect combination for winter holidaymakers, true to the motto: clear the stage for memories that last.
