The mountain autumn in the Zillertal offers almost endless possibilities for leisure activities. But all autumnal excursions in the valley have one thing in common: the spectacular colourfulness of the alpine natural landscape - some highlights have been newly added.
Escape Adventure at the Spieljoch Family Adventure Mountain
The new interactive adventure "The Abandoned Mine on the Spieljoch" entices daredevils in a race to discover a mysterious legacy on the Spieljoch in the Fügen-Kaltenbach region. In the multimedia treasure hunt, players are allowed to explore the surroundings with a treasure map and smartphone in order to solve all the puzzles and tasks. Only the first to solve all the tricky riddles and tasks will find the right way through the dangerous labyrinth in the abandoned mine, get to the mysterious object and be entitled to the rich grandfather's promising inheritance
Tradition meets modernity
From award-winning culinary delights in the valley, Tyrolean inn culture to exquisite gourmet menus on the mountain, gourmets get their money's worth in the Zillertal. The Zillertal huts and inns often have a long tradition, yet dishes from Kaiserschmarrn to Pulled Pork Burger are redefined in a Zillertal way. Whether after a pleasurable hike, after an exerting mountain bike ride or after a cosy stop: more than 150 culinary pleasure huts and mountain inns invite you to the highest culinary delights in the Zillertal. The BrauKunstHaus (brewing art house) in the Zell-Gerlos region is a highlight for gourmets. In its new BrauKunstHaus, the private brewery Zillertal Bier offers visitors an exciting multimedia tour of the brewing and bottling process over an area of more than 5,000 m². The highlight is the tasting of the beer specialities
Farmers' Autumn and arts and crafts
Local farmers and family-run farms from the Mayrhofen-Hippach region present their products at the Zillertal Farmers' Autumn until mid-October. For all those who want to eat healthy and sustainably, there are fresh, seasonal vegetables, cheese, bread or bacon as well as regional quality products from farms at the farmers' market. In addition, various exhibitors present their works of art and give interested visitors an insight into their crafts. The ideal place, for example, to have a picnic around the Schlegeis reservoir. Thanks to public transport, which can be used free of charge with the Zillertal Activcard, you can get from Mayrhofen to the Schlegeis reservoir flexibly, comfortably and in a climate-friendly way every 30 minutes
Highlight of the Almabtrieb
After the cows have traditionally spent the summer months on the high pastures of the Zillertal alpine pastures, the colourfully decorated animals return to their home barns under the astonished gaze of hundreds of onlookers. Each animal is decorated with a festive "Buschn" made of pine cones and roses, grains and barley stalks, edelweiss and pearls. In the Tux-Finkenberg region, the Almabtrieb is an integral part of local traditions. At the Oktoberfest 2022, the colourfully tufted animals gratefully return from the Bichlalm to the valley and are truly a magical sight against the Hintertux mountain backdrop. The two-day festival, from 23 to 24 September 2022, is framed by countless musical highlights. Autumn in the Zillertal could not be ushered in more beautifully
Nature on the doorstep
With its 422 square kilometres (an area covering over 40% of the entire valley), the Zillertal Alps High Mountain Nature Park is a Garden of Eden for rare species of flora and fauna - here you can get very close to nature. The panorama is dominated by a total of 72 three-thousand-metre peaks, which you can marvel at while enjoying delicious treats at a culinary gourmet hut or together with a nature park guide. Several times a week, the experienced nature and hiking experts accompany their guests through the autumnal landscape. The botanical hike through a fabulous gorge forest, for example, is breathtaking. The nature experience is located in the protected landscape area Glocke, an island of botanical and geological rarities in Finkenberg. Particularly impressive are the up to 70-metre-deep Tuxbach gorge, the beautiful beech forest and the legendary Devil's Bridge, a wooden structure dating from 1876
