From 7 to 9 October, the time had come: After a cancellation in 2020 and a light version last year, the 16th edition of the Tour de Tirol took place in Söll am Wilden Kaiser. The overall victory in the men's race went to Thomas Roach, who won all 3 individual stages as he did last year. Anja Kobs won the women's race. She won two sovereign day victories on Friday and Saturday and thus third place at the Pölven Trail was enough for her to win the overall ranking.
Everything that makes a runner's heart happy was on offer this weekend in Söll. Glorious weather, best times and a great atmosphere were the order of the day at all three stages. On Sunday, 9 October, the last events of the running weekend took place with the Pölven Trail and the Kids' Run. While there were only winners at the largest children's run in Tyrol with more than 400 participants, both the daily winners and the overall winners of the Tour de Tirol 2022 were crowned at the Pölven Trail.
Thomas Roach (GB) won the men's race with three daily victories, Anja Kobs (GER) won the women's Söller Zehner and Kaisermarathon. She secured the overall victory with a third place in the Pölven Trail. "The set-up of the weekend is just perfect: 10 kilometres on Friday, the strenuous mountain marathon with 42km yesterday and another good 23 today - just right," says the beaming winner Roach, who already knew what he was getting into after his victory last year. Anja Kobs said she rewarded herself with the start at the Tour de Tirol as the end of the season: "What a view at the Kaisermarathon and the Pölven Trail, it was really a great weekend for me," said the overall winner, who doesn't look tired even after three competitions - and smilingly answered all the questions at the interview in the finish area before, as she continues, retiring to the Tyrolean wasteland to relax for a fortnight.
Both complimented the race organisation: "The refreshment stations were great, the course markings were very clear, the people everywhere cheered us on so warmly, the atmosphere was a dream," said the overall winners after the race. The fact that the course of the Kaisermarathon also led over the terrace of the Tanzbodenalm and through a stable was particularly pleasing to Roach, who has chosen to live in Tyrol, and overall it was once again "one of the most beautiful races I have ever run" for both of them Anja adds, "that you run through the middle of a quarry and are greeted by a complete brass band, that only happens in Tyrol."
Race director and organiser Martin Kaindl (JOLsport) is also happy about this compliment: "We are extremely satisfied with the weekend. We were not only lucky with the weather, but everything else worked out great too. We saw insane performances, the victories are absolutely deserved," said Kaindl on Sunday after the Pölven Trail. "We want to remain exactly this big running family that we are at the Tour de Tirol", Martin Kaindl looks to the future. The 400 children who started today are our runners of tomorrow. In a few years they will fight for the overall ranking. It was really a great weekend. I am thankful for my great team, all the volunteers and the great support we receive here in Söll " What we also want to push further is the environmentally friendly design of the event: We have already drastically reduced the waste by using our soft reusable cups and setting up many spring water fountains along the routes.
Söll's tourism manager Gabriel Eder also sums up with satisfaction: "It was once again a great pleasure for us to be the venue for this special running event. Not only did the weather cooperate this time, but also the atmosphere was unique and Söll showed once again that we are home to many excellent runners on the one hand, and on the other hand that many international running guests, this year from 28 nations, come here again and again and take the best memories of the Tour de Tirol home with them. The feedback we receive every year from all sides is consistently praising. At this point I would also like to thank from the bottom of my heart all those who have helped to make this event possible."
