After a two-year forced break, Austria's largest traditional costume festival will take place again in 2022. From 28 April to 1 May 2022, the motto will once again be: "Treff ma ins am Gauder". Visitors can look forward to days full of tradition, traditional costume and conviviality in Zell am Ziller. The programme promises pure entertainment - with competitions, music and exhibitions, enriched by the enjoyment of the best beer specialities from Zillertal Bier.
Austria's most important spring and traditional costume festival can finally take place again. The cancellation of the Gauder Festival twice in 2020 and 2021 meant a profound break in its almost 600-year history. Robert Pramstrahler, Mayor of Zell am Ziller, looks to the future with relief: "We are happy about the current developments that allow the traditional Gauder Festival to take place again and are delighted to finally be able to organise the event again this year."
Four days full of highlights
The numerous programme items will once again take place in the large Zillertal Bier festival tent and the extensive outdoor area in 2022. The Gauder Fest brings together conviviality, tradition and enjoyment. "For a long time, we had to do without the conviviality that is so important in the Zillertal and now we can hardly wait to experience it again after a long time," says Martin Lechner, Managing Director of Zillertal Bier. The legendary Zillertal Gauder Bock and the Gauder Steinbock are traditionally waiting for beer lovers.
The Gauder Fest 2022 starts on Thursday (28 April) with the ORF Radio Tirol Musiktruch'n Gala in aid of "Licht ins Dunkel". The following day sees the official beer tapping and the highly anticipated "Gambrinus Speech" - one of the biggest highlights of every Gauder Fest. Saturday is characterised by the big Noriker show and the "Gauder Hogmoar" - one of the most important ranggler titles in the Alpine region. On 1 May, the Gauder Fest parade - Austria's largest traditional costume parade - concludes the four-day traditional event.
Safe framework conditions
Thanks to the recent reopening measures, the Gauder Festival can once again be held under legal conditions. Pramstrahler comments: "We will draw up a comprehensive safety concept that will take into account the rules applicable to the event." Ferdinand Lechner Jr, TVB Chairman of Zell-Gerlos, adds: "The measures that have been worked out will ensure a safe event in which the conviviality and hospitality that the Gauder Fest and the region stand for can be conveyed and experienced."
