BurgSommer Hall 2022: Eintauchen in eine besondere Welt voller Mythen, Poesie, Weisheit und einzigartiger Klänge

Updated 01.04.2022

ERNST MOLDEN, URSULA STRAUSS & HERBERT PIXNER exclusively present the BurgSommer Hall from 22 to 25 June 2022 in the Hofratsgarten of Burg Hasegg with a unique project

For the third time in a row, "half of Hall" Ernst Molden (original quote, because he attended the Franziskanergymnasium in Hall) and his Hawara will honour the Haller Burgsommer in 2022. But it will certainly not be monotonous! The master of linking words, the virtuoso guitarist and the pioneer of the "new Viennese song" always manages to put together a programme that seems to focus on Vienna, but with its characters, longings and associations plays on the whole country. With "Molden & Hawara" you enter a musical world that "Ernstl" has created for all of us.

The highlight of the 2022 edition of "Molden & Hawara" will be a unique new project that unites Ernst Molden with the artists Ursula Strauss, Herbert Pixner, Manuel Randi and Maria Petrova in a special way: In the programme "Oame Söö" (translated: Poor Soul), legends and myths from the musicians' homeland are set to music in a contemporary, poetic guise. The album will be released in spring, the only live performances in 2022 including the premiere will take place at the Haller Burgsommer. A must-see: "Heast Oida, des wead leiwand!"

Die Strottern / 7 pm

The Viennese song is alive! And the acoustic duo Die Strottern is not entirely innocent of this: for more than 20 years, Klemens Lendl and David Müller have been dusting off the Viennese song musically and in terms of content so thoroughly that a local song tradition has become music that is understood all over the world. Awards such as the German World Music Prize RUTH or the AMADEUS Austrian Music Award bear witness to this. Again and again they search for new and today valid means of expression and themes for the Viennese song in interplay with musicians from other genres from jazz to early music.

Ernst Molden & Willy Resetarits/ 9 pm

"Schdean"

One of the rare duo performances: The joint concerts of the "best singer-songwriter on God's earth" (Willi Resetarits on Ernst Molden) and the "most beautiful voice in the country" (Ernst Molden on Willi Resetarits) move audiences from Lake Neusiedl to Lake Constance and increasingly beyond. After Ho Rugg (2014), which was voted CD of the year by the German Liederbestenliste, another milestone was released in 2017 with Yeah, which was well received by audiences and critics. Awarakadawara have been whistling from the rooftops ever since. in 2021, they followed it up with Schdean. A melody, a line or even just a voice can open up worlds. A few words, a change of key, perhaps even the liveliness of the song alone, create the contours of images, invitations to enter these new worlds, to settle down in them, to be at home there.

Gerald Votava featuring Walther Soyka & Maria Petrova / 7 pm

"A schenes Lem!The Nöstlinger Songs "Some stories have a good ending, a few others even a wonderful one. Among the latter is the story of the artistic friendship that the Austrian author of the century, Christine Nöstlinger, formed with the Viennese actor, songwriter and musician Gerald Votava in the last years of her life. Votava was already part of the celebrated Nöstlinger production Iba de gaunz oamen Leit at the Rabenhof Theatre in 2012. In Maikäfer, flieg!, the 2016 film adaptation of Nöstlinger's war memoirs, he then played the poet's father with tremendous intimacy. They got to know each other, they talked, they got on well together, as they say in Vienna. At one point Christine Nöstlinger handed Votava two dozen late dialect poems, equally clear-sighted and pessimistic, equally warm-hearted and deeply sad poetry. Votava could make something of it, the poetess said. After three years of intensive, almost meditative work on the texts, A schenes Lem! Is now available. A great, modern, emotional album with lyrics that seem to come from a distant past and yet contain an almost prophetic knowledge of the fate of humanity. Gerald Votava sings these lyrics with unrelenting concentration; he is supported by the enchanting harmonica of the great Walther Soyka. Great song albums like A schenes Lem! are like journeys. Listeners have to decide to come along. For this they pay a price, for this they receive a reward.

Anna Mabo & Die Verzerrten / 9 pm

"Notre Dame "What Anna Mabo thinks and writes and sings comes across to the listener like a bullet. But such clarity is never at the expense of poetry," writes fellow musician Ernst Molden about Anna Mabo's compositions. As if this statement were a programme, after her solo debut Die Oma hat die Susi so geliebt, which was enthusiastically received by the audience, she now goes one step further on her new record Notre Dame: the songs are bigger, the band line-up wider, the wit even more poetic and the poetry even more haunting. And there is so much content and mystery in it that the name of the album had not been known until the release. Anna Mabo's concert with fellow musicians Clemens Sainitzer (cello), Ernst Molden (guitar), Karl Molden (bass) and Thomas Pronai (drums) will be unforgettable.

Felix Kramer / 7 pm"All's Well"

After a fast-paced career in classical music that brought him numerous prizes in international competitions, the young Viennese lyricist, composer and musician Felix Kramer hung up his nails (for the most part) almost two years ago. Since then, Felix Kramer has been making a name for himself throughout the German-speaking world with his own compositions in sophisticated arrangements and unique lyrics. With his debut album Wahrnehmungssache, he immediately landed in the top 20 of the Austrian sales charts, the album release show in October 2018 at Vienna's Porgy & Bess was sold out right away, as was the Vienna Konzerthaus just a few months later. Felix Kramer moves his audiences to tears and storms of enthusiasm. His concerts always end - and this would be very classical again - in standing ovations lasting several minutes. His writing and composing style is unique, his pieces sometimes orgiastic, sometimes unexpectedly fragile, always demanding and in any case touchingly intimate. His second album Alles gut was released in October 2020.

Ursula Strauss & Ernst Molden featuring Herbert Pixner / 9 pm

"Oame Söö"

CD presentation and world premiere: 24 June 2022 / 9 p.m

Attention: Exclusive additional concert: 25 June 2022 / 9 pm (see below)

At the Burgsommer 2021, Herbert Pixner, multi-instrumentalist, composer and figurehead of new and progressive folk music, appeared completely unexpectedly at the Ernst Molden & Ursula Strauss concert and spontaneously performed together with the two Viennese audience favourites. The audience and all those involved liked it so much that the idea of setting up a joint project was born in the backstage area immediately after the concert. No sooner said than done - since then they have been writing songs that combine legends and myths from the musicians' homeland in a musically contemporary, poetic context. The accompanying album Oame Söö (for all non-Viennese "poor soul") will be released in spring 2022 - in addition to Strauss, Molden and Pixner, the exceptional musicians Manuel Randi (flamenco guitar with the Herbert Pixner Project, among others) and Maria Petrova (drummer with Das Frauenorchester and the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle) are also part of the group. The Haller Burgsommer now has the great honour of being the venue for the world premiere and the only live concerts of this project in June 2022. Over two evenings, visitors can immerse themselves in a special world full of myths, poetry, wisdom and unique sounds.

The Scottish Principle / 7 pm

This new band, consisting of the four Viennese women Julia Reißner (voc/git), Viktoria Mezovsky (git), Jana Mitrovic (bass) and Petra Fraißl (drums), captivates with its very own charm and its courage to live differently. The Scottish Principle is roughly what would have come out of it if Nico, Wolf Biermann and Nina Hagen had formed a band together, taken a long educational leave in London in the late 70s and emerged in Vienna after a long back and forth, equally disillusioned and inspired. The lyrics are sophisticated and not only bring together themes like Nietzsche, fear of failure or the endless desire to travel without pathos, but also create their own little worlds that won't leave your head. Especially live, the dynamics spill over onto the audience with ease, which is exactly what the Scottish Principle is all about: provoking experiences in a loud kind of modesty.
