Beim „Freudenfeuer“ ins Haller Mittelalter eintauchen

Updated on 22/08/2022

The legendary Middle Ages also included cheerful moments, which are revived at the "Bonfire": From 7 to 9 October 2022, the bright and colourful times will take centre stage in Hall in Tirol.

"Bonfires" were the forerunners of our town festivals. They were festivities more or less organised by the town to mark special occasions. Fires were actually lit in a wooden barrel, usually in the upper town square. On this occasion, music was played and there was lively dancing. Wine was poured and confectionery served. In the period around 1500, the latter was still a speciality.

Tent camp, historical techniques and delicacies from times gone by

In addition to the "bonfire" on the Upper Town Square, the three-day event in Hall offers much more: in the tent camp in the Abbey Gardens, groups of performers live out everyday life in authentic replica tents. They wear costumes and use artefacts from the period. Craftsmen demonstrate their skills using historical techniques. Visitors can obtain information and marvel at numerous demonstrations. For the little ones, there is a special children's programme with lots of fun and games in the Old Town Park. They can experience the world of children in the Middle Ages.

Music and dance are as important today as they were then: Music and dance groups perform at various events. Musicians also play all over the old town centre.

A medieval market is a must in the historic market town of Hall. The stalls sell spices, herbs, healing stones, jewellery, incense, clothing and toys for little knights and damsels.

The best crossbow shooter will be sought at the historic shooting range. A travelling shooting chain awaits as a prize. The last shooter receives the golden sausage!

The highlight of the festival is the "bonfire" on Saturday evening.

As in days long past, a fire will blaze in the barrel on the upper town square. There will be music and dancing. Together with the dance groups, every guest can then dare to dance around the "Haller Freudenfeuer".
