7. June 2022 - An important name in 20th century art is the focus of the latest exhibition at KiS - Kunst in Seefeld. The small, fine Seefeld art gallery presents Andy Warhol's homage to Jewish intellectual greats of the past century: Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century is the third show by now, underlining the successful cooperation between KiS initiator Rafael Jablonka and the municipality of Seefeld.
Andy Warhol, enfant terrible of the US art scene in the second half of the 20th century, is one of the most controversial and undoubtedly most active artists of the past decades. In his "factories" (there were three of them) he produced art almost like an assembly line, his parties were meeting places for intellectuals, artists and celebrities.
Warhol, born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh in 1928, discovered his passion for drawing as a child when an illness confined him to bed for a long time. his breakthrough came in 1961 with "Campbell's Soup Cans", a solo exhibition in Los Angeles that had already become an art cliché. When Ron Feldman, an art dealer who was a friend of Warhol's, suggested 100 names of Jewish celebrities from the fields of art, science, politics and other areas for him to work on artistically, the project "Ten Portraits" was born. In the course of many discussions in 1979, ten names crystallised, among them Sigmund Freud, Sarah Bernhardt, Golda Meir and a group portrait, namely that of the legendary four "Marx Brothers".
KiS - Kunst in Seefeld is showing these "Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century" until September in the Alte Feuerwehrhalle in Seefeld, a location that is a perfect counterpart to Warhol's "Factory" idea. In the collages on display, Warhol plays with colours and shapes, and the photos and drawings of the sitters silkscreened onto them produce the portraits that reveal Warhol's signature at first glance.
Since its premiere about a year ago, KiS has made a name for itself in Seefeld, but also far beyond. This led to the founding of KiS - Verein zur Förderung zeitgenössischer Kunst in Seefeld (Association for the Promotion of Contemporary Art in Seefeld) in 2022, which was initiated by Rafael Jablonka and is headed by Elisabeth Gürtler from the Astoria Resort Seefeld, a personality with an excellent network. In the coming months, the KiS association not only wants to increase the awareness of the exhibition hall among guests of Seefeld and locals alike, but is also particularly concerned with art education, especially for children and young people.

KiS - Association for the Promotion of Contemporary Art in Seefeld was founded at the beginning of 2022 on the initiative of Rafael Jablonka. The board consists of chairwoman Elisabeth Gürtler, treasurer Christian Jäger and secretary Clemens Rhomberg. They are also founding members of KiS, which also includes Hans-Peter Haselsteiner, Renate Labak, Ernst Mitterndorfer, Klaus Ortner and Rafael Jablonka. "In this function, I would like to achieve for Seefeld that we distinguish ourselves from other tourist destinations," says chairwoman Elisabeth Gürtler. "The promotion of contemporary art of such an international level as Rafael Jablonka shows should inspire the people who live here and attract new guests."
