Rattenberg and Brixlegg are known for their traditional Advent markets. On Advent Saturdays, the new slow train travels between the towns and brings visitors from the Brixlegg Christmas to the Rattenberg Advent.
Rattenberg/Brixlegg - Advent is the time of cosiness and tradition. Throughout Tyrol, the anticipation of Christmas grows during the Advent season. The Advent markets in Rattenberg and Brixlegg are particularly well-known. New this year is the slow train that connects the two towns on Advent Saturdays. Especially for families, this is a little highlight and the car also takes a break. It runs from 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m., approx. every 20 minutes and stops in Rattenberg at the P1 tourist office, Innkauf bus stop, Brixlegg railway station and at the Volksbank Brixlegg.
Even this year, Rattenberg does not have to exchange any lights for economical LEDs. For years, Austria's smallest town has relied on natural light sources such as candles in the windows, torches and open fireplaces. These let the picturesque facades appear in a warm light and give the little town a special flair. On Fridays from 4 p.m. (advance booking: rattenberg@alpbachtal.at) there is a guided Advent walk. On Saturdays from 1.30 pm the Rattenberg Advent begins with traditional music groups
The glass shops with their engravers and the Augustiner Museum invite you to a visit worth knowing. On Sundays, from 3 p.m. onwards, Anklöpfler and Weisenbläser parade through the town. The Rattenberg Advent takes place on weekends from 25.11. to 18.12.2022. Admission is free.
The Brixlegg Christmas market has become one of the insider tips in Tyrol. It is rare to find such a wide variety of genuine Tyrolean products, including many handicrafts such as carvings and knitwear, fragrances, incense, teas and much more. Delicious delicacies such as Krapfen, Kiachl and Christmas biscuits sweeten the pre-Christmas season. A highlight for the whole family is the traditional St. Nicholas and Christ Child procession on 3.12.2022. St. Nicholas enters the village in a horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by angels, at 5 pm.
