From 11 December 2022, the WESTbahn will offer three direct connections per day from Vienna to Innsbruck and back. In addition to the stops between Vienna and Salzburg, there will also be stops in Kufstein and Wörgl on the way to the Tyrolean capital.
From the Danube to the Inn, you can get there with the WESTbahn from the timetable change in December: Departures from Vienna Westbahnhof at 7:08 (Innsbruck arrival 11:29), 11:08 (arrival 15:29) and 17:08 (arrival 21:29). In the opposite direction, trains depart Innsbruck at 6:31 (Wien Westbahnhof to 10:52), 12:31 (to 16:52) and 16:31 (to 20:52). The trains run from Salzburg without stopping via the German Corner to Kufstein.
"In recent years, there have been frequent requests from the provinces west of Salzburg as to when the WESTbahn will finally run there as well. We are very pleased that we can now start the new direct connection to Tyrol - and at a very attractive price for passengers: With the WESTsuperpreis, they can travel from Vienna to Tyrol or vice versa for as little as 18.99 euros," says DI Thomas Posch, Managing Director of WESTbahn. "Of course, we also want to accept all valid Verbund tickets on the Innsbruck - Kufstein section. To this end, we are holding constructive talks with Verkehrsverbund Tirol and assume that there will be a solution by the timetable change."
"We are coming to Tyrol with our young, comfortable double-decker train fleet, which is of course state-of-the-art. With the modern trains, our concept of First Class, Comfort Class and Standard Class as well as with technical innovations such as the Relax Check-in, we want to appeal to frequent travellers, but of course also attract new customers to the railways. By the way: All those who travel with the KlimaTicket Ö on the WESTbahn have it especially good. They can use our Comfort Class at any time at no extra charge, reserve their seat every day free of charge and pay for their coffee or snack at the vending machine with the WESTpoints collected at the Relax Check-in," adds Florian Kazalek, Managing Director of the WESTbahn. With a twinkle in his eye, he adds: "I am sure that we will inspire the Tyroleans with our offer and I hope to convince them that good things also come from Vienna. This is a personal concern of mine, not least because of my family's Tyrolean roots."
Tickets for the new connections to Tyrol are available now at www.westbahn.at, in WESTshops and tobacconists. From 1 December 2022, there will also be a WESTbahn information and sales counter at Innsbruck Central Station.
