Updated 15.11.2022

Family Advent in the Drachental with programme until 18.12., nativity scene trail & Advent events - the Advent season in the Wildschönau is traditional, contemplative and far away from the hustle and bustle

The Drachental family park in the village centre of Oberau has become a popular meeting place. For the first time, the family Advent takes place there. On all four Advent weekends from 26 November to 18 December 2022 (Saturday and Sunday from 14:00 to 19:00), you can spend a nice afternoon with the family. There will be stalls selling mulled wine/punch and specialities from Wildschönau associations - as well as regional products from farmers and all kinds of gift ideas for Christmas. Traditional Advent music will be performed as a supporting programme. While parents enjoy mulled wine or punch, children can skate laps on the ice rink or take part in the children's programme. And a ride on the Alpine Coaster "Drachenflitzer" through the winter sky is sure to be a special experience. Illuminated figures on the grounds also create an adventurous atmosphere.

Advent officially opens on 26.11. with the "Oberauer Adventeinläuten". The bells of the beautiful baroque parish church in Oberau, also known as the cathedral of the Wildschönau, ring out at 5 pm. In front of the parish courtyard, orchestral and tower wind players of the BMK Oberau as well as Anklöpfler offer advent music. Beforehand, at 4 pm, there is an Advent CD presentation with various music groups in the Oberau parish church.

Not far from the Drachental is the Wildschönau Nativity Scene Trail. You can also get in the mood for Advent on a walk there.

Between the villages of Niederau and Oberau runs the "Franziskusweg", a hiking trail that is regularly cleared and bathed in soft light in the evening. During Advent, the Franziskusweg is transformed into a nativity scene trail. In display cases - protected by glass -different kinds of nativity scenes can be viewed. The first nativity scene is at the Museum of Mountain Farmers in Bach. You can marvel at cots in Tyrolean and Oriental style withlovingly made figures and filigree details (e.g. many tiny roof shingles). The "Krippenfreunde Wildschönau" put a lot of work and passion into their works of art every year. The cots are on display until Candlemas on 2 February, the official end of the Christmas season.

Tip: Park at the mountain farm museum or at the tourist office and walk along the path to the Drachental in the centre of Oberau.

Somewhat less filigree than the small nativity scenes are the village nativity scenes in the village centres and at the museum, which were created by wood artists. Thierbach offers the most beautiful setting for a village nativity scene.
