"The mountain comes to town" - under this motto, Kitzbühel presents itself at prominent places in Vienna this summer. Whether Prater, STEFFL, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Graben, Main Library and Museum Quarter - Kitzbühel's summer resort is omnipresent and with it numerous news from the Gamsstadt.
Kitzbühel's summer campaign
"We all have a house-challenging year behind us. In Kitzbühel we have used the time to continue to fulfil our core mission by working on the Kitzbühel brand, intensively dealing with the image of the future and also increasingly involving the next generation," started Kitzbühel Tourism Managing Director Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser at the press briefing this week in the SKY Roofgarden at STEFFL in Vienna.
The question of what an advertisement could look like this summer and what values the destination would like to convey to the outside world was also the focus. The idea was a sensitive campaign, especially for the local markets, that exudes joie de vivre and evokes memories of happy getaways in the Gamsstadt. Together with the internationally renowned creative director and designer Alexander Kellas and the globally active fashion and art photographer Jork Weismann, Kitzbühel reinterpreted the alpine summer resort with sympathetic photos and a design refresh of the famous Kitzbühel lettering. The results are unobtrusive subjects far removed from all the usual tourism clichés, focusing on cheerful serenity and aiming for safe relaxation. An excerpt of this year's summer campaign could already be admired in the month of June on 3 surfaces and a total of 345 m² in a prime location on the Graben in Vienna.
Joie de vivre in the centre of Kitzbühel
PURA VIDA Kitzbühel - that's the name of the Kitzbühel summer nights in a new dress and is intended to do one thing above all: radiate carefree joie de vivre. In line with the summer campaign of Kitzbühel Tourism at the local markets, the focus is on current trends - reflection on the essentials, enjoyment of regained freedom and light-heartedness. Everything is allowed, nothing is compulsory - this is how the PURA VIDA Kitzbühel concept presents itself in a deliberately fluid way.
PURA VIDA Kitzbühel is the first result of the branding process that began in March and also the first co-creative event concept designed by the young entrepreneurs themselves. From 8 July to 26 August 2021, every Thursday in the 750-year-old historic town centre there will be musical entertainment in walking form, culinary specialities, extended shopping hours and yoga in the park as well as a specially created PURA VIDA Kitzbühel summer drink.
"To let concrete implementations follow the brand building process without any loss of time was one of our big concerns when we started our dialogue forms. The fact that the next generation has integrated itself so creatively and with such commitment into the PURA VIDA Kitzbühel process is a pleasure and motivates us for further projects," says Kitzbühel Tourism Managing Director Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser.
Sport meets culture
This summer, Kitzbühel surprises with selected event formats. The cultural kick-off is Classics in the Alps with Elīna Garanča & Friends and the sporting kick-off is the 1st Kitzbühel Cycling Marathon with 216 kilometres and 4,600 metres of altitude. At the end of July, international tennis stars compete at the 77th Generali Open in the Gamsstadt. Film enthusiasts can look forward to the 9th annual Kitzbühel Film Festival at the end of August, which offers young national and international talents a stage. The Kitzbühel Summer Concerts and the 20th Kitzbühel Summer Theatre round off the programme.
The Hahnenkammbahn and the Kitzbüheler Hornbahnen were awarded the "Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways" seal of quality this year. "This seal of quality underlines that we can also offer an absolute premium in summer. Furthermore, it is an incentive and a mandate to further develop the variety of experiences in the KitzSki hiking and mountain bike region," emphasises Anton Bodner, CEO of Bergbahn Kitzbühel. Europe's longest connected bike trail will be opened on 09 July. "Last summer showed us that our bike trails in Kitzbühel and Kirchberg are particularly popular. That's why KitzSki has been a partner of the Gravity Card since this year, Europe's largest bike park association with 22 bike parks in 6 different countries. The OD bike trails can also be used with the Gravity Card," says Christian Wörister, CEO of Bergbahn Kitzbühel.
Autumn also remains sporty. At the 3rd Gamstrail, trail running enthusiasts explore the Kitzbühel mountains on 5 different distances. The classic for classic car fans is the Kitzbühel Alpine Rally, which attracts cult cars to the Gamsstadt in mid-September.

A delicatessen under the name Löw's Deli is also planned in the neighbouring "Lacknerhaus".
Harisch Bar
Also worth a visit is the newly renovated Harisch Bar in the former Stamperl, which was already considered the new hotspot in Kitzbühel before its opening in May. In this classic bar, whose architecture and concept are unique in the region, a small but fine selection of trendy bowls is served alongside cocktails.
