Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail - sold out for the fourth time

Updated on 04.08.2021

From 6 to 8 August, trail shoes will once again be running hot in the Pitztal: the 9th Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail is sold out for the fourth time in a row and once again confirms the Pitztal as the number one running destination. Both runners and spectators can look forward to a spectacular supporting programme with food trucks, TrailTestival and Trail Running Symposium.

The 9th edition of this unique event will take place from 6 to 8 August this year. Trail runners can explore the Pitztal mountains on seven different distances. Like the supreme distances P105 and P85 as well as the P42 Glacier, this trail leads over the glacier and offers participants the unique experience of crossing the glacier at sunrise.

The hotspots of the trail weekend are the Rifflsee and the Trail City Mandarfen. The TrailTestival takes place at Rifflsee. This will take place on Friday, 6 August from 09:30 to 12:30, where various manufacturers will be presenting their latest trail shoes, compression socks and much more on Friday, 6 August from 09:30 to 12:00. Among others, Salomon and Adidas will be there. From 12 noon, the event continues in the valley in Trail City with the Sport Expo and the Trail Food Festival.

The Trail Running Symposium, which was cancelled last year, can be held again this year. An emotional documentary film will be presented as part of the event: To mark the 100th anniversary, ten internationally renowned athletes took on the "AlpFrontTrail", a route covering 850 kilometres and 55,000 metres of altitude, which commemorates the conflicts of the First World War. Director Henrik Diekert accompanied AlpFrontTrail organiser Phillip Reiter as well as former biathlete Laura Dahlmeier and last year's PAGT P105 winner Hannes Namberger on the historic border between Italy and Austria. The favourites of the Salomon Golden Trail National Series will also be presented as part of the Trail Running Symposium.

The Pitz Alpine has also set itself the task of awakening trail fever in even the youngest children. The "Kid's Trailrun" in Mandarfen is therefore expected to attract many motivated children this year, who will earn their first spurs as trail runners on a child-friendly "trail course".

Exciting finishes can be expected on Saturday from 10.00 am in Mandarfen. One of the favourites for the P60 course is last year's winner Marie-Luise Mühlhuber. Top performances can be expected from Moritz auf der Heide (D) and Martin Mattle from Paznaun in the P30. In the P45 Glacier Trail, Sanna and Lina El Kott Helander will be trying to defend their titles.
