Swarovski proudly announces the opening of "The Art of Performance", a new chamber of wonders at the Swarovski Kristallwelten experience destination in Wattens. In this impressive representation of Swarovski's long history in the world of entertainment, cult outfits from film and stage are presented against a dazzling backdrop, celebrating the radiance of Swarovski crystals.

"For over a century, Swarovski has fuelled the passion and curiosity of fashion designers and artists," says Michele Molon, a. i. CEO of Swarovski. "The entertainment industry and Swarovski are inextricably linked in their constant endeavour to inspire people to create entirely new worlds and to enable creators and dreamers to create their own stories."

From costume designs to red carpet creations and global sporting events, Swarovski has been inspiring generations through collaborations with world-renowned designers and artists for moments of cultural significance, bringing characters to life, headlining historic performances and helping artists express their uniqueness. This illustrious history is explored in this major exhibition, curated by fashion designer Michael Schmidt and conceived by award-winning set designer Derek McLane, who was spoilt for choice when selecting the exhibits: "As an artist, Swarovski crystal offers you endless opportunities to express yourself. All the impressive moments in the course of cultural history that Swarovski has helped to shape - truly incredible! From Dorothy's ruby red shoes from The Wizard of Oz to Michael Jackson's glove and Simone Biles' outfits from her gold medal wins, Swarovski crystals always add that certain sparkle."In addition to original outfits by Elton John, Cher and Dita von Teese, there will be replicas of Marlene Dietrich's outfit from the 1932 film Blonde Venus - incidentally the very first time Swarovski was seen on the big screen - and Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday" dress, which was worn at John F. Kennedy's legendary birthday dinner. Kennedy's legendary birthday dinner, which amazed not only the then President himself but the whole world, as well as Katy Perry's chandelier dress by Moschino, which she wore at the Met Gala 2019. Amongst the many remarkable pieces on display are a Foraeva dress by Icelandic singer Björk and pieces by Lady Gaga and Beyoncé.Carla Rumler, Cultural Director Swarovski, is delighted: "For this exhibition, Michael Schmidt has made a selection that spans decades and transcends genre boundaries - with costume designs through which he tells a story; a story of great, emotional and joyful moments of human connection that are deeply etched in our collective memory. With his glamorous set design, the one and only Derek McLane transports us to a Hollywood party where we celebrate with the stars."

"The Art of Performance" offers an unprecedented insight into how and why Swarovski crystals were chosen for the world's most memorable designs. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to see the designs up close while being transported back to cultural highlights in history. "Swarovski crystals magically bathe stage lights in a mesmerising and brilliant atmosphere. The crystal dome at Swarovski Crystal Worlds inspired me to create one of my set designs for the Oscars. Now I'm delighted to have been asked to design a stage for this new Wunderkammer that brings Hollywood to the Austrian Alps," adds set designer Derek McLane, "The boundaries between the worlds of music, film, theatre and sport are completely blurred in this new Wunderkammer, and the individual genres merge into one great whole - united by the irresistible attraction of Swarovski.Stefan Isser, Managing Director of Swarovski Crystal Worlds, adds: "Swarovski Crystal Worlds is the cultural epicentre that allows visitors from all over the world to experience the boundless diversity of crystal through the eyes of artists.
