On 21 August, the Zillertal Ibex March/Run will take place for the 53rd time in the mountaineering village of Ginzling. Once again, the classic event will attract 1,000 hiking and mountain running enthusiasts to the Zillertal mountains, which demands not only endurance in mountain running, but also strength and skill. For all athletes, this is a strenuous march, an enormous challenge and an unforgettable experience.
The Zillertal Ibex March is now in a class of its own and is well known in the outdoor scene beyond the borders of Tyrol. With its younger brother, the Ibex Run, the event attracts numerous athletes to take part every year. While last year the number of participants had to be reduced to half - due to the pandemic - this year 1,000 starting places are possible.
"We are very pleased to be able to hold the event to its full extent this year," explains Rudolf Klausner (local head of Ginzling) on behalf of the organisers. "The event will be held in compliance with the '3G Rules'. We will ensure all the necessary safety standards. Thanks thereby to all volunteer helpers, the fire brigade Ginzling and all involved for your patience and commitment."
Start and routeThefirst hikers set off at 05.00 in the morning to tackle the route. The facts speak for themselves: 30 kilometres, 1,871 m in ascent, 1,613 m in descent - that's the Zillertal Ibex March in Ginzling. Through the wild and romantic Floitental valley with the Tristenbachalm and the Steinbockhaus, the route leads at dizzying heights over rock and ladders to the Mörchnerscharte at 2,870 m, on to the Berliner Hütte, via the Grawandhütte and the Klausenalm to the longed-for destination at the Alpengasthaus Breitlahner. This strenuous hike is very popular with young and old. The runners start at 5.30 a.m. and cover the same distance.
Colourful supporting programme at the festival siteLifeRadio Tirol will provide atmosphere with its summer tour at the festival site. For the little visitors there will be a climbing tower to let off steam. After the festive march-in with a concert by the Bundesmusikkapelle Ginzling, the prize-giving ceremony will take place. Afterwards, the day ends with hearty music by the "Kasermandl Duo".
