The Kundl Gorge is made more tangible

Updated 22.09.2021

Visitors to the Kundler Klamm gorge gain new insights into the geology and the historical saga surrounding the Drachenschlucht gorge. Together with local companies and artists, the history of the natural gorge was staged.

Kundl - The two communities of Kundl and Wildschönau have a common connection with the natural gorge Kundler Klamm. Under the title "Klammheimliche Begegnung" (Gorge Encounter), the gorge has now become a place that holds a lot of exciting knowledge for visitors. This project was initiated by the cultural committees of the municipalities of Wildschönau and Kundl and the two tourism associations of Wildschönau and Alpbachtal. The "soft play" of the gorge was implemented with local businesses and artists.

Along the gorge and at the two entrances, boards invite visitors to take informative breaks. Visitors learn about the formation of the gorge and the geological diversity of the rocks. The description comes from the rock expert Karl Sandbichler. The boards have also been provided with Braille. Wooden benches and sculptures with impressive dragon motifs were designed by local wood artists. Six flags display changing information about the gorge in pictures and text. The first of these is the legend about the origin of the gorge, which can be learned by walking through the entire gorge. An annual joint gorge opening festival is planned with two stations at the respective entrances in Kundl and Wildschönau. The Kundl Gorge is open from April to mid-November.
