Only three weeks to go until the fifth edition of the popular Imst Cycle Marathon (IRM). It's time for all participants to get started. A light on the cycling horizon for all those who have already registered for this mountain race.
Following the postponement of the May date, preparations are in full swing so that the organisers of the 5th Imst Cycle Marathon can ensure that this event can take place in a healthy and infection-free manner. To this end, the planning and organisation team is working intensively at all levels.
"As a former biathlete, I always did my training programme at the start of the cycling season on the Haiminger Sattele - it's half an hour away from where I live, on my home course so to speak. With a 10 per cent ascent over 10 km, it's a really tough mountain - and a good challenge. The perfect start to my training," says Florian Lipowitz from Seefeld, winner of the 4th Imst Cycle Marathon in 2019. "But now this year - after the postponement - there is finally an opportunity for participants in the bike marathon to take part in a real race again. And the autumn in Tyrol also offers good weather. So just be there and take part!", says the budding professional cyclist from the Tirol KTM Cycling Team, who had his race premiere with absolute world-class professionals at the Tour of the Alps 2021.
A lot of mental work for the route planners and the organisation team, which paid off. The result is three route lengths that invite participants to enjoy the outdoor region of Imst on their bikes. Because the Imst Cycle Marathon has something for every cycling enthusiast - even for everyday cyclists. Over 1,000 racing cyclists have already registered.
Due to the coronavirus situation, the start and finish are planned outside Imst, at the sports centre. The cycling highlight organised by Imst Tourismus and "Radsportevents" covers 70, 90 or 110 kilometres. On the long distance, 2,300 metres of altitude difference, the Holzleitensattel and the Haiminger Sattele have to be mastered.
Details on the routes and all important information on the conditions of participation can be found here .
A comprehensive, strict hygiene concept has been developed in close cooperation with the responsible authorities and the sports associations, which is based on the current Corona Ordinance of the Federal Government. The 3-G rule applies to all participants in the Imst Cycle Marathon on the day of the event - vaccinated, recovered, tested. Proof must be provided on the day before or on the day of the race when collecting the starting documents.
Registration for all distances is possible online until Saturday 25 September and all further information can be found at www.radsportevents.com/imster-radmarathon.
Cycling in the Imst outdoor region is possible earlier in the season than in other regions of Tyrol: thanks to its favourable climatic location - with the Lechtal Alps to the north and the Ötztal Alps to the south - the Imst outdoor region opens the cycling season as early as mid-May. The Imst Cycle Marathon was launched six years ago as a joint project by Imst Tourismus and the organisation manager Frank Rietzler. Due to the coronavirus situation, this year's event was postponed from 15 to 16 May 2021 to 26 September 2021. The race, which has established itself as a permanent fixture in the racing calendar, is scheduled for Sunday 15 May 2022 next year.
