The mountain running world championship for participants aged 35 and over will take place - one year later than planned - as part of the Schlickeralmlauf in Telfes in the Stubaital.
The first major sports event in the Stubai summer of 2021, the 4th STUBAI ULTRATRAIL, could be held without any problems. This strengthens the confidence of the organisation team that the 20th Masters Mountain Running World Championship in Telfes in the Stubaital can also be held as planned. Every athlete who has reached the age of 35 can take part in the World Championships, which will take place from 3 to 5 September 2021. The Schlickeralm race will be held as an open race for the younger age groups on 04 September. To get in the mood, the day before there will be the children's run, which has already become a tradition, the charity run and the Telfer Wiesen Run in the Stubaital.
On the first weekend in September 2021, all eyes of the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) will once again be on Telfes in the Stubaital. The sunniest village in the valley will once again be the venue for a major mountain running event. The 20th Mountain Running Masters World Championship will take place this year, after 2014, for the second time on the course of the Schlickeralmlauf.
Built trust and proven safety"Our long-standing good cooperation with the World Mountain Running Association has paid off in hosting the 20th Mountain Running Masters World Championships. When we had to cancel the World Championships last year, the WMRA stood by us. The contract for the event remained with us, it did not move on, but was postponed by one year, " the head of the organising committee, Andreas Stern, is pleased to say.
"As things stand at the moment, in compliance with the "3 G" rules (tested, vaccinated, recovered), the staging of the event is assured. The safety concept has proven itself, as we were already able to demonstrate at the first big running event this year, the 4th STUBAI ULTRATRAIL. Nevertheless, we ask all participants to inform themselves about the regulations in the respective countries and to exercise appropriate caution. Then nothing will stand in the way of another sporty running weekend," adds Adrian Siller, chairman of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association.
Two starts, one goalThe 20th Mountain Running Masters World Championship will start on 4 September 2021 at two locations. The finish line at 2,136 metres above sea level at the mountain station of the Kreuzjochbahn in the Schlick 2000 hiking centre is the same for everyone. Women and men will be judged in nine age groups each. All groups of women and men aged 55 and over start at the middle station of the Kreuzjochbahn. They have to cover a distance of 7.4 kilometres and 775 metres in altitude. The participants of the age groups M35 up to and including M50 start at the village square in Telfes. Their distance is 11.5 kilometres and 1,157 metres of altitude difference to the finish
Every enthusiastic mountain runner who has already reached the age of 35 is eligible to take part in the 20th World Masters Mountain Running Championships. The age limit is 79 years.
Apart from the World Championships, it is of course also possible to take part in an open classification at the Schlickeralm Run. The start will be, as usual, at the village square in Telfes. The course is 11.5 km long and has 1,157 metres of altitude difference.
Framework programmeAround the run on Saturday, participants and spectators will also be offered a great supporting programme. On Friday, 3 September, the children's run, which has already become a tradition, and the charity run, in which a certain amount can be donated to a social cause for each lap, will be held again this year. The Telfer Wiesen Run invites all running enthusiasts to a flat lap of 8 km, before the official opening ceremony of the World Championships takes place in the evening, followed by catering with Tyrolean specialities in the community hall and at the music pavilion in Telfes. This is also where the winners will be crowned after the races on Saturday and where the Masters Mountain Running World Championships will end with live music
Sunday offers all visitors and participants the opportunity to visit one of the Stubai highlights, such as the WildeWasserWeg, the summer toboggan run in Mieders or perhaps the Top of Tyrol summit platform on the Stubai Glacier.
Registration, still reduced until 31 July 2021, and more information can be found at: www.schlickeralmlauf.com
Any programme changes due to the Covid situation will also be communicated via the homepage.
